• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

ECU/EFI/ comp tuning options

First let me say this community and group of people is absolutely refreshing...

I check out all the threads and people are helpful!?!?!?! I hope to get to ridewith some of you soon.

On to the question:

I have been scouring the interwebs for info about ECU tuning options for the spyder. I see several old threads about the juice box and juice box pro and a few with rumors on the powercomander. It appears the two are the same or made by the same company and both can import maps from commander site. I also found that HMF makes atuner (and or piggy back system) for the spyder which seems to function the same as the first two.

Every bike I own gets mods and upgrades it’s just too much fun but when it comes to electronics I get "timid" with what to do and why. Engine safety is a big concern andlet me share where I am with the bike at the moment. Just purchased HMF slip on should be here this weekend. My bike gets some backfire with stock exhaust so i feel pretty confident I will need something to push more fuel with the HMF. I plan ongetting something for the intake I like kewlmetals intake but not sure if the company is still in full swing and viable according to other forum post.
As far as engine mods those are my only plans... HMF,intake/filter and whichever engine management system.

Are these 3 the only options?
Are the "canned" maps viable?
Any differences in the 3 choices?
Who has used them and with what success or disappointment.

I am not too concerned about losing a little gas mileage butalways concerned about engine safety

Thanks in advance

I have the hindle, 02 modifier, original Juice Box and Kewlmetal intake and have run this way for almost 3 years with great results performance wise and no loss in gas mileage. Others have used other combinations and most seem happy with their choices, so have fun.

I ran Juice Box and O2 mod with a Hindle and then an HMF, along with Evoluzione race intake and had good results.. but at a big cost in MPG!

I then changed to a Power Commander V with Auto-Tune and never looked back. There is no comparison... the PCV with autotune is THE way to go. Can be done for $500..... my MPG went right back up and the throttle response was amazing.

I love the PCV with autotune. The thread I started about it was ALL MY FAULT. My dumb butt forgot to hook up the map sensor hoses. :banghead: If it wasn't for Firefly and Sny, I would have been falsely blaming the product.

I would HIGHLY recommend the PCV, hands down. Throttle response is crisp, and you KNOW your tune is spot on (maximized) and don't have to guess if it is. I have a map for performance and fuel mileage. Just 1 flick of a button, and I get the best of both worlds.

Ok thank you all for response... this is what I was hunting for, other options I was not aware of. So correct me if I am wrong but the PCV with autotune would adjust for several mods? or you need new maps each time? I will research on the site some.

Kewlmetal the only people making intakes anymore?

YEs-- the auto-tune will make a new set of tables-- which you then 'apply'. Any changes you make to the system it will continue to read and make a new table for you. It uses a sensor you mount in the Y pipe to read your air/fuel mix.

And yes... I believe the Kewlmetal is the only aftermarket intake right now....

ahh yes and reading single band wide band... much for me to learn but it is starting to sound like setting up my old turbo vehicle and its ecu

If you go with the single-channel auto tune you just weld an extra bung on the Y pipe near the OEM one for the o2 sensor. If you go with the dual-channel then you have to yank the headers and mount a bung and sensor about 9" from each exhaust port.

I just did the one sensor version on the Y-pipe due to ease of installation. The Y pipe is easy to remove. Might as well install some of the good Honda gaskets while you have it apart. I have extras that I can no longer use if you need some-- just PM me your address and I can send you a pair....
