• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Eco.mode.....seriously???

Great tool for those who tend to ride that way...

I liked the green gear shift cues to get acclimated to the 1330 SE6 shift points. Do I use ECO mode? No. I think that our overall riding style as programmed thru the right wrist governs what mileage we get anyway. If we ride like old farts, me included, we tend to get better gas mileage but if we like to twist that grip, thats what we do, ECO or not.

I have a novel idea. Make it fully automatic. No need to look for an arrow, no need to shift; in fact, no need to think. There ya go. Problem solved.

I don't doubt that BRP seriously toyed with this idea...
If you think about it: the downshifting is already done by the bike. This is the easiest thing to accomplish: you only need to read the engine rpm, and tie that into the downshifting protocols.
Upshifitng would probably require some way to monitor the torque-load on the drivetrain. This would be necessary to provide for upshifting at the proper times.
(CVTs have been doing this for a VERY long time...)
They most likely felt that riders would want more "involvement" in the process; so it was shelved. ;)

I ignore the shift points, so don't look. Where I do see benefit in gas mileage is when cruising along at constant speed for long distances -- my 2016 RT seems to sip gas running ECO mode like this.

So, I shift where I want and only use ECO mode once up to speed and cruising ..... Ann

Have to agree, I don't need it to know when to shift but it gives me a minimum 50km extra to a tank when on the open road.

I can't comment on the US models but their is a noticeable difference to performance in the Australian model to the point where
I only use ECO on the open road. There is obviously different engine mapping in ECO Mode

Cheers

Cruising at a constant speed is exactly where ECO mode will have zero effect.

ECO on the open road will make zero difference. If by "mapping" you mean AFR or timing, then you are mistaken. ECO changes the rate of input from the throttle position. (see chart)

Pretty simple, if your feel that strongly about it turn it off or ignore it. This subject pops up on occasion and everyone feels differently. Some obviously feel strongly about it either way. Mine was on when I bought it and I leave it on all the time. I do not dwell on it and occasionally glance at it. Seldom use it to shift up unless I am running constantly in a lower gear around town etc.

Hey I paid for it and I want to get my money's worth.
:D

Even if it is just a little bit. Maybe they should have named it "the frugal Scot and not ECO".

Personally, I don't want a fully automatic model I prefer the up shift option based on my situation. But hey that is why I like my 990 series engine.

Well folks, I have to admit I'm surprised by all of the many diverse replies this thread received. Personally, I am much more interested in TOTAL range than MPG. I'm happy to get 200mi and a lttle left in the tank when I fill. The F3-t does that easily as did my GL1800.

Hey, the eco mode does little to improve the range, but it does make the libtards much more happy with the product.
It has a green leaf so it must be good for the environment, global warming, Gore, trees and so very much more, it just makes us feel better to have it.

I'm probably in the minority here, but if BRP made a fully automatic Spyder, I would own it.

Took mine off today....

I normally drive with the eco mode on, no big deal to me. Well today I decided I'll make a run without it on. First thing I noticed is the power and take off, for me it was completely different, there was a noticeable increase in power. Secondly I sometimes make aggressive turns and corners, well I took a corner in an aggressive manner, like I've done before, and the left tire came completely off the ground. It was unexpected and exciting all at once, although it's not something I look forward to doing again! Lol! Also I don't believe I'll share this information with Mrs. Titus....

We won't tell her a thing!
But if your neighbors throw you under the Bus: just tell her that the bike was feeling frisky! nojoke
If you hadn't had the brakes fully locked-up; it probably would have taken you on a ride into the next State! :D

Eco away!

I love the people out here with attitude....get out much? If folks want to use eco so be it! Doesn't make them a worse or better rider, it's just their choice. Personally I have it on but usually simply shift when I feel it's right. What's the big deal? And no it doesn't require you to stare down at your console all the time. Simple glances suffice.

You do realize that not everyone shares your point of view? Your post is offensive to many people.
