Easy Risers vs Mirror Extensions

I am looking at buying and installing 4.5" Easy risers on the spyder. Will this delete the need for the "Up & Out Mirror Extensions". I am tired of looking at my knuckles but if I install the risers, I may not need the the mirror extensions. Anyone with experience with either product. Thanks you.:f_spider:

In my experience when you fit the risers you will need the mirror extensions even more.

:agree:

Adding the risers typically makes things worse--- so get the risers too.:2thumbs:

I have the 4.5 risers installed, and while you can see behind you your view is partially blocked (sorry do not remember off hand how much). From personal experience, you will need the extensions (unless you like looking at your knuckles). I now wish I would have waited until I bought the extensions before putting on the risers (my next mod).

Get both...oh, your mirrors are going to vibrate a little no matter what you do, just in case you're interested...

maybe it's because i am broad shouldered but...i HAD to have mirror extenders with the stock setup (form sitting on one in showroom) before i added the 1" riser. sadly i think i am now going to get a 3" riser, but more to pull the grips back further as opposed to higher...

mirror extenders seem to be the MOST common addon to Spyders and i really think BRP should go with a 2-3" longer stand for them (or a 1" at the very least). of course as soon as they do that someone is going to decide they wanna put ape hangers on their Spyder...which i would pay to see!

Absolutely correct. I added the risers and now my hands pretty much completely block the view in the mirrors. But, then again,I could care less who's behind me!:D

Until you make a lane change without realizing someone is coming up behind and next to you at a much faster rate of speed.

The Up and Out risers (ESI) are the best out there at this time...well worth the investment...

I'm not a big guy. I got numb palms when ryding the RS stock. I put Kewlmetal 5" adjustable risers on and it already had the BRP 1" installed. I didn't put them of for the height rather to be able to pull them back toward me to I could sit upright. I've adjusted them toward me and tilted them down so that I don't need extensions. I am able to see the road clearly behind me. That obviously doesn't work for most folks.

By the way, Up and Out Extensions won't work with the BRP ultra touring windshield without some agressive cutting of the windshield to fit "over and around" the extensions.

Good luck. There's always a product that will work. Enjoy the rydes of your life.

Thanks for the tip. I have the BRP Ultra Touring Windshield, and was going to get a set of extensions.

mirror extensions

Looking on the website both Kewlmetal and ESI have them listed. Big difference in price. $79 vs $129. Any opinions on the two products. Is the price the only difference or " do you get what you pay for". I added the 4" risers and now find that I too am looking at my hands. Aside from the comment that the mirrors still vibrate any other plus or minus features?

ESI is a better company, period...then again, you're gonna get two sides to this...also, I think the ESI look more 'stock'...they fit the lines of the bike well...for some reason, and I don't mean to offend anyone who has the kewlmetal product (although it will sound that way), I think the KM looks out of place...

OMG. It was a joke! Not to mention I'm always in the left lane leading the pack. No joke! OK, maybe a little joke....

Ok, I'm convinced I need both the mirror extension and the riser. I do have the Ultra Tour Windshield. I am 6'2", 240 lb. Will I need to cut the windshield so everything will fit?

I don't use the extensions. Don't want the extra drag and the extensions just look weird to me. I somehow found a way to adjust the mirrors so that they work OK without them. I tuck my elbow in just a tad when I look and I can see just fine. But everyone is different. Mirrors are very important so you have to do what you feel is going to make you feel more comfortable. Oh, and I'm 6'3" and 245...

I believe Kewlmetal ones are just "out" whereas the ESI ones are "up and out"

:agree:Since you have the Ultra Touring, if you go with ESI's Up & Out, you will have to cut the windshield a few inches to accomodate the "up" in the extensions. The cuts will need to be pretty much the full length of the extensions PLUS the original mirror stalk. If money is no object, an option is to buy Mastad windshield adjustment brackets which not only allows for adjustment of the windshield to help eliminate drag, buffeting and head bobble, but also gets the windshield away from the cowl, which would allow the Up & Out to be installed without cutting the windsheld. But, that's $169.
