• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Easy rear trunk light

I found an amazingly easy and cheap way to get really good light to rear trunk. Don't really remember were we got the light from, but it is what I call a stick light made by sylvania, a short tube light with led lights that takes 3 AAA batteries.
I found some peel and stick base mounts at Home Depot that have slots in them for small zip tie. I mounted them to flat part of trunk lid and attached light with zip ties. When you open trunk, you can spin the light to put it exactly where you need it.
Wife just told me we found the lights at BJ's, Sams should have them too, think they came in a two pack for $20.00

Can you post a picture of the light, have been looking for some light back there and this might be the trick. :thumbup:

the light is called a flute light. Had pic of where I mounted light, for some reason, wouldn't load that pic.
OOPS, put sealboards on with light, hey, I'm doing good to get pics loaded.

That is one of those headband lights, held in place with Velcro. The light pivots down and has several light options, including dim, bright & red. When needed elsewhere, pull away from the Velcro.

Being a Musician I took the musicians approach and velcro'd a music stand gooseneck light. That way I'm able to use the light anywhere on the RT if needed. Also note the iPhone holder on the right side.
 
Can't see your light in the pic, tried to see it but I think I'm blind. I do like the flexible light as an option also. :thumbup:

Really neat idea, I shall copy it! You'll never know when you'll have to do a running repair or carry out an adjustment at night, in which case a headband light could just be the accessory you need. Two uses in one! Good thinking, Mark! :thumbup:
 
REAR TRUNK LIGHT

Agree its a good idear

May consider getting one that could plug into the Rear power socket - (Batteries always seem to run out when you need them most)

Could go for a rechageable one or one that would have direct power from the 12v power supply in the rear trunk

You could then leave the light connected and only switch it on when needed and if there's a long enough lead it could be used if needed for the
minor adjustments to the Spyder at night or as a portable light for the side cases or Front trunk when trying to locate items in the dark etc

Somebody has to make a 12 volt, plug-in lamp that's on a spring-loaded extendable reel; the trick is in finding it! :shocked:
 
I am using one of the head band 3 diode lights but I made a block that fits in the angle near the latch end. You cannot see the block but it allow the light to point straight down in the trunk. My light also has a red led so I can swing it down and point straight back if i ever need to warn anyone that I am on the side of the road as I have the bad luck to do with this bike, lol.

I used a velcro mount to the block so I can still pull the light off if need be.

I did not have a rear trunk light fitted but after seeing this post could see how useful one would be

Whilst looking on e bay came across an LED Light in the Mobile/Touring Caravan Parts

The details of the LED were as follows :-

Brand new 12/24 volt 21 led lamp, built in switch, easy to fit just two wires. This is one of the brightest lamps we have ever seen and sold .

Life expectancy 50,000 hours.

150 lumes at 1 metre.
Designed to run 12/24 volt 10 - 30 watts.
Strong aluminium design,with built in rocker on/off switch.
Reverse polarity protected.
Power consumption 1.9 watts.
Width 40mm Depth 22mm Length 160mm.

There is also a longer one of 33 Leds

Went with the small one due to location I was going to use to fit it

I decided to Posi Tap into the wires at the back of the Rear Trunk power socket - Access is gained by removing the Speaker Pod nearest the Power socket
Once the Rear speaker pod is moved away access is easy and I routed the cable (Well protected with sleeving etc ) up via the hinge and using Cable Ties and Heavy duty Velcro attached the Ligtht to the inside of the Rear Trunk Lid

It has constant power to it as its from the Rear Power socket (Which on my Spyder RT - S SES 2010 Model is hot wired - always on)
There is a on/off rocker switch on the light which allows easy operation


Because I tapped into the Power socket wires the Power socket can still be used I don't need to unplug the LED light each time to use the socket
I also carry a 3 Led wind up torch so don't need to run a lead if I want to get items out of the Side panniers or the Front Trunk at night
I just use the tourch

I have posted some pictures to show the LED as Fitted - I had to take a nick out of the top section just to ensure the Lid could close without
catching the cable

I am well please with the result

Home Depot has some stick on battery powered lights that are designed to light dark spaces in closets but work fine for the Spyder trunk
