• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I traced my battery drain to the DSSS module by removing fuses while watching an amp meter. it is draining at about 35ma, is this normal? can I routinly remove that fuse when not riding? Or is this parasitic drain an indicator of a bad DSSS module?

So, you pulled F7 and your parasitic drain went away. That takes me back a ways. There’s nothing bad about your module. So, you have DESS 1.0, the original; version of DESS. It was very reliable in its operation, but a royal pain to program. It's not done with BUDS. You have to have two discrete OEM, chipped keys programmed. Cloned keys don't count. If you don't, it stays in programming mode and drains down the battery. See attachment - right out of the shop manual. So, how many discrete, chipped OEM keys do you have for this thing? Did you ever catch a message flash on the screen that said "New Key" or " Next Key"?

If you have a second, OEM key that's never been programmed, you can go back through the process and get them both programmed. You don't need a master key because you are still in programming mode.

Or, if it was me, rather than trying to investigate all of the possible ways of how a 2009 machine got to this point, I would pull the front end off of the machine, follow this video, and just bypass the thing. On DESS 1.0, the Kill Switch is run through the DESS module to the ECM. Essentially all he did was disconnect everything, and jumper together the Black/Yellow wire to the Beige wire. Everything else is left. disconnected

At the 35ma rate in a week you have used about 6AH of the batteries 22AH capacity. Or about 1/4-1/3 of the batteries capacity. So as Ron says, put it on a tender when not riding it. Or fix it one way or the other, as SnowBelt said.
