• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. DRONE

Ok to dissagree but realize I have been into RC Helicopters and RC for 40 years.
Google search Finless Bob and you will see....

So I have plenty of experience.

But in the end its what you expect out of any RC product. If your happy with the cheap toys great!
Just don't expect to get a $50 drone and do things with it a $1,000 drone can do.

Bob

Sorry Bob! Totally didn't mean to sell you short or undercut you - and I think I sounded that way. Wasn't my intent. I've gleaned a ton of knowledge from your posts on Helifreak. Actually - when I saw your post - I literally went "Hey - I didn't know he rode a Spyder!" I'm quite jealous of guys like you and what you are able to do with some of these machines.

My intent was simply that with mitigated expectations, a beginner doesn't have to spend hundreds to have some fun and see if they like it - before they one day work their way up to Finless Bob status. ;)

If you got big and fancy expectations, as Bob is saying - you are going to have put out some big and fancy dollars.

Drone

I just bought (yesterday) a drone for 145 bucks from a tv add. Have never flown one but want to try it. I should get it in a couple of weeks and
it should probe interesting.

I have a DJI Phantom 3 pro that has a 4k camera. Had the phantom 2 prior. You really do get what you pay for.
The "follow me" feature is fantastic, speeds at 27+mph, the 1.2 mile range is hugely under rated as I've had mine 3+ miles out with still fantastic signal.
Even the changes from the phantom 2 to the phantom 3 are worth the upgrade.
Personally, I wouldn't waste my time with the toys.

By the way, you should also know the difference to what a "drone" is vs a quad helicopter. In the media and non-RC people too much use of the word Drone in this hobby.

Drew, nice setups you have there buddy!

I bought a wltoys v686 --it has fpv, controller, and a good camera. Look at the reviews on YouTube. Just be careful -- very light and not good in any type of breeze. Wasn't windy on the ground but up about 100ft breeze took it and even full throttle only kept it in place but wouldn't bring it back. I had to drop throttle to drop it down (in the neighbors yard!). Nice first (for me anyway) with a good camera and fpv. About $100. Only lasts about 8 minutes of flight but also bought 5 additional batteries to have a bunch of time to play.

I have done some research and read everyones post.

All good information.

Will try a beginner model. Know wind is a huge factor but if i crash cheap to fix.
If i don't like or not what i expected can give to one of the grand kids.

Wouldn't want to crash $1000.00 dollar machine into a tree from lack of experience:dontknow:

drone

Our supplier of nut's bolt's etc, came buy last week sporting a cool looking box. It had a drone in it . He sold 5 that day in my location only. It was 50 bucks. 6 axis gyro system makes it easy to fly, led lighting to fly at night, can do a 3d flip and roll ,360 degree rotation, 2.4 ghz transmission support long distance and high speed turns, ideal for both indoors and outdoors use. Here is my test results. Keep fingers clear when turning on ( ya got it ) no injuries, keep it slow and cool, shredded a document on the table ( not important ) chewed up the blanket on the couch ( no damage ). Dog hates the noise and runs away. Need a spare battery as flying time is approx 7 minutes. Can get it to hover and fly around the house but still working on the the fine trim settings for control. Overall it is a blast to play with. My son and family came over the other night and asked if it was a Xmas gift for our grandson ( 9 months old ). So if that helps, good, if not keep GOOGLING.

Oh and regarding parts... make sure you can get them easily!
If you have to order from China you will be down a long time.
