There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Driver/passenger communications

I have the SENA SMH-10 system and was wondering if I buy an Ipod to stream through the Bluetooth, does the music automatically fade out when using the intercom? Also, is the dongle only necessary to listen to the radio through the headset?

Yup. If memory serves correct, the priority on the SENA units is phone call/intercom/music in that order. So if you're listening to music and you either receive a phone call or your passenger initiates an intercom connection, your music will stop. Once your call ends or the intercom session is ended, the music comes right back on.

With regard to the radio, unfortunately, yes, you need the dongle, which is a rip off. You need the BRP proprietary cable and they won't sell the cable separately from the kit, so you can't take advantage of getting a lower price on the SENA transmitter on the open market. I'm also told the installation is a bit painful, because you have to take a lot of tupperware off to properly route the cable. I just gave up on the radio and pretty much just listen to music from my iPhone. I haven't tried streaming Pandora yet, but I can't imagine that not working.

Hope this helps,
Keith

Thanks Keith. Looks like I'll be buying an Ipod and getting my money back for the dongle that I thankfully didn't have installed.

If you want to hear your radio through the SM10 to your headset, I did figure out the BRP cable and you do NOT have to remove a ton of Tupperware if you put the SM10 in the trunk. Making the cable is pretty easy.

Here is my DIY on how to hook up the SM10 to your BRP radio. It's not that hard to make.
In this post later on (Post 17 I think) a user gave the part number for the BRP radio connector so you don't have to make up your own like I did.
It would take about 1 hour to make the cable and mount it all.

I was dealing with the same dilemma you are myself, just last week. I was looking at the cheaper options though. What can i get done as i am on a budget. But after looking at all the options i think only three stood out for me. The SMH 5, SMH10, and the scala g9. Even though it hurt, the Scala G9 is the option i took. I got it for $349 with shipping on ebay. It was at least $70 more then the SMH10, and way over my budget. As for options i cannot speak about the others, but i am loving the scala. It has some great voice activation features. It also can click to link. The feature i like best about it is that you can setup alot of it by connecting it to your PC. It is really easy to set it up that way. And the Scala community is a blast. I actually found a friend of mine through it and i paired him up to me, without anything. You can also simply tap two units together to pair them. My final decision to go with scala was a personal one that my friends also have it and cross compatibility is not a feature for these bluetooth intercoms.

My observation, though could be wrong is the following on the three units:

Scala G9: Might have the most features. Good voice quality. pricey
SMH10: Best bang for the buck. Some say better voice quality then Scala. a bit bulkier.
SMH5: Well priced. Audio quality a little less to the others.

Don't leave out the Sena SMH5-FM
It is about the same price as the SMH5 but has a built in FM radio with 12 presets.
My wife likes this as she can listen to a different radio station than I am or what the BRP radio is streaming to the SM10 out to the SMH5 headsets. So this combo gives a lot of versatility.

My setup:
SM10 hooked to BRP radio which streams what you hear from the BRP radio (radio stations, Ipod, MP3 player, etc) to your headsets.
2 pair of SMH5-FM headsets.

FYI the Sena's can hook to a PC and be programmed as well. This did save a lot of time especially setting the FM presets in the headsets.

Uclear 200

My wife, son, and I all ride together. We have the uclear set up. This setup works extremely for us. We don't have a boom in front our face. It is voice activated. Just a nice set up.

Bob - do you make/sell these cables? I don't have the equipment to make a cable, nor do I really want to purchase it, because I doubt I'll ever make another cable. If you sell them for a reasonable price, then it might makes sense to buy one from you and just get the SM10 on the open market (with your instructions on mounting the SM10 from the back).

 I thought that we all got on our bikes to listen to the sound of the wind rushing past us, and the throb of the engine propelling us toward our next adventure...

No I don't make them or sell them. But if I ever get connected with the Sena distributor here in Costa Mesa, they plan to.
If a pinch if you order the connector parts and have them sent to me I will make you one.
