There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Drive Belt

Sorry to hear about your belt......

I don't think belts are covered under warranty--- in the US or elsewhere. They would be just like brake pads---- a consumable.....
I'd run it by the dealer anyway. Doesn't hurt to ask, and they just might go for it.

Thanks for the link to that site Lamont, belt will be shiped Monday.

The dealer said BRP may replace it under warranty as 'good will' - well here's hoping. I want a spare belt anyway.

Does anyone have pics of a guard (homemade) for the right side of the belt, as that's where the pebbles seem to enter? Anyway, here's the guard I made today and the shredded belt.

The angel bracket is about 2.3" giving about a quarter inch clearance for the tyre and the inside of the belt. The small front bracket attached to the existing screw at the front of the plastic belt guard, the hole being about 1" above the top edge of the plate, which is about 1/32 or .5mm thick.

Hey freddie, good you got a new belt you must be working/living up north.
I like the homemade guard, looks very bushy..lol.
BTW ask your local dealer for the rear axle plugs... the plastic plugs that go over the axle nuts, they are supposed to be fitted by BRP aust.

Hi pop. Not far north, Geraldton. Stop laughing at that guard right now. It will be very effective I'm sure especially on the Darwin, red centre, Port Augusta, Gero trip in August. The 'local' dealer is in Midland. Thanks for the tip in the plugs for the rear axle, I'll ring the dealer.

Have you had any probs with yours? How long have you had it? How do you find Savage for service?

belt drive

hi all,i'm on my 3rd drive belt in 6oookm and i also made an inner belt guard but it didn't work cause i just lost another belt with it on.
the belts are being covered by brp and i am now needing new sprockets as well for the third belt as they are damaged.
the drive belt is a good idea but brp need to set up a full guard package.
the drive system will be a lemon if a guard system that works is not found,as who wants to spend $880.00 for a belt each time.
and i'm not riding on gravel roads.road works is the main problem, tar and chip.
cheers coxy:chat:

Coxy, not meaning any disrespect to Black Widow, but I think it shows that our American brothers do not realize the premium those of us outside of the USA pay on spares and extras. The one that got me was $1300 for the backrest (can't have the backrest without the sportrack, $500 +$800), and $1800 for the Hindle.

belt and bearings

I had my belt replaced at 19,000 and the hub bearings were toast. I think the recommended replacement is 12,000 but the belt really looked good even at 19,000. Warranty no, because it is a wear item.

LOOK DEEPER

Not changing the subject of the thread but I want to thank Lamonster for posting the link to the parts fiche. That can be a big help when you are working on things whether you order parts or not. I expect that many of you already have it but, as a relative newcomer to the forum, I did not. Hope they will have one for the RT soon. Thanks

SEARCH TYPE 2010 RTS SPYDER IN SEARCH YOU WILL FIND WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR

Tour kidding about those prices,,right?

I thought 300 was extremely high for a drive belt. Id sell this machine in a heartbeat if I had to pay those kind of prices.

EBAY

I found the belts on ebay for 179.00 but not sure if all spyders use the same belt or not. :spyder2:
Well, I've had my Spyder just 2 weeks and been having lot of fun. I finished work early today and took it out for an hour or so. When I stopped for fuel 2 blokes came over to admire it. After a minute or two, one said, hey have you seen ya drive belt? To my dismay, the belt is now in 2 pieces (but still rideable), thanks to a stone stuck in the rear sprocket.

I read elsewhere here that the belt is now covered under warranty in US. I don't know about Australia but am about to find our. The (closest)dealer is 400km away and the retail price for the belt alone is about $750 I believe.

Question 1: Has BRP come up with a belt guard?

2: What and where is the best price for a belt in the US for a spare?

Thanks in advance

I've seen those as well...
Do they all use the same belt? :dontknow:
I THINK that they do; but it's more of a guess than an informed answer. :opps:
If you check the parts catalogs on BRP's website, just look up the belts for the RS and RT models. If the numbers match... :2thumbs:

Well I did some digging...
For 2010, the BRP site listed belts with different part numbers;
RS:705500861
RT:705501154

But...
For 2013 they show the SAME part number for the belt: 705501576

Last time I checked BRP Australia wanted $700 for a drive belt. I bought one from East Toledo Honda for half that including freight.

I noticed in Gatlinburg that my drive belt was almost half way off the rear pulley.:yikes: I trained the belt out side of the hotel. ran great all the way home.

How do you train it? When it goes out of kilter do you say " BAD belt" and when it stays where it should be do you say "GOOD belt" and give it a treat? :shemademe_smilie:
