Drive Belt deteriating

Hi Guys

Second Spyder RTS 2014 mileage 1600 miles bought 4 months ago. I notice the drive belt like it was peeling off the side. I called the dealer saying it could be a rock that might have wedge itself between sprocket and belt. Any one have this problem and is it covered under warranty . Going to bring to shop tomorrow to access the problem.

 That ain't the best-looking belt, that I've ever seen... :yikes:
I might have guessed a terminal "alignment issue" could be the culprit, but the damage is to the outside edge...
Can you raise the wheel up, and inspect that sprocket by spinning the wheel? :dontknow:

Wow..!!

that is some serious damage..but if it is a rock or foriegn object I doubt if manufacturer warranty will cover. If it is a part from the roadster broke loose and is rubbing/cutting the belt could/ should be covered....:dontknow: Could also be a defective belt....

I hope so those belts are not cheap somewhere in the $400.00 to $500.00 dollar range. Will bring to shop tomorrow morning and hopefully they can give me a cause. I have never had a problem with the belt before and have not seen any post on here about the drive belts. I had a 2009 Spyder and just traded it in on the RTS 2014 and this is first what I would call a major problem. Been problem free for past five years with Spyder I guess I was due for a problem. LOL (laughing to prevent crying LOL)

Drive belts cost about $280. Installation and towing (if you need it) are extra. Ask me how I know. :roflblack::roflblack:

All I gotta say is :shocked::yikes:

I've never seen a belt look like that and *still* be on a bike/Spyder.

Ummm, yeah, need to get that replaced. Good luck with the warranty!

Looks like rubbing on front sprocket to me. Let me know if you need help. Also be cautious of the dealer they refused to do warranty work on mine because I didn't purchase from them. Just FYI

A rock will not cause damage all the way along one side of the belt
It would cause bad spots
Your belt looks like it has been rubbing on something [front sprocket flange, belt guard, etc.

Agree completely. This is continued rubbing of the belt on something else that is stationary. A rock lodged in the belt would not look like this... and especially along the full length of the belt.

The only way a rock could have caused this is if its wedged within one of the pulleys......not likely.
Your belt alignment at the rear pulley looks good to me. Anything look odd at the front pulley??

I will also say the belt appears to be misaligned and rubbing. It would be easy to see by jacking up the back of the bike in neutral and rolling the tire backwards and forwards and looking at the movement of the belt. That's an easy to way to see it for yourself and not take the dealer's word for it.

Well brought it to the dealer this morning All Terrain Motorsports in Grand Junction. As usually they are backed up and will take the bike on August 9. The tech kind of agreed with you guys like something causing the shred of belt wouldn't be a rock but possibly an alignment issue. So thanks for the help and by the way tech said he has not seen anything like this problem with drive belt, leave it to me to be the first. LOL Have a safe day.
