• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Drive Belt Construction

Seems like I have a small wire wanting to come out on the outside of the drive belt of my F3, has this occurred to any here?

I had a small sliver of rubber about 2 inches long come loose at the top, inside edge on my RTL belt. I just snipped it off with fingernail clippers. I think it must have been a manufacture defect because there was no other indication of a belt problem. I look at it every once in a while and there has been no change after 15,000 miles. I quit worrying about it..... Jim

Are you certain it is actually a wire, made from metal?

These belts should be obviously a rubber material, but the reenforcement fibers are carbon fibers.

Without actually seeing the belt or detailed close up photo, my best suggestion is to use a pen or marker and not on the belt the location, then carefully cut the exposed fiber away. Periodic inspections to ensure no further issues are not a bad idea either.

Many thnx for that, will keep checking on this suspect location every now/then to see if it is staying the same or changing in any way.

Looking on the Can Am parts site it describes the belt as: High-tensile strength carbon cord and HNBR rubber construction delivers impressive durability, superior flexibility and reduced noise, while resisting abrasion. Tooth-side fabric composed of special low-friction fiber. No mention of steel cords. Keep an eye on it.

Kevlar in the belts.

Often, in this style drive belt, and even others, they do not use Kevlar because it has properties that make the belt get tighter with the heat from friction. Also, Kevlars to have higher elongation on impact and this could make tension vary more as loads are applied or reduced.
