• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Dreaded parking brake locked and clicks only!

I know this has been covered many times and have read several different threads. Trying to diagnose if microswitch, motor or dash switch is bad. My parking brake is locked on. No biggy had to release once before back in 2018. This time it happened in garage. I Unscrewed 12mm nut in back, Pulled cable up and released spring. Bike now moves and brake released. Pushed down dash switch and it just clicks, like a solenoid somewhere under the front dash. Checked fuse 1 and fine. Checked brake fluid and fine. When I push dash switch it turned the ! Symbol To solid. Cable doesn’t not move. Turned off and back on and pushed dash button 10-20 times. Pushed on brake etc trying to jar it and even moved the spyder. So turned off and beeps for 20 seconds or so as it should. Took off side panels. Last time my micro switch was sticking and was dirty. Simply wiped it and clicked the bar a few times and perfect since. I turned machine on and didn’t touch dash switch. I cleaned microswitch bar and manually pushed the metal microswitch on bar down so I hear the micro switch click. It clicks fine. In theory the ! Symbol Should go out I think. It doesn’t. It turned solid. The click I hear when depressing the dash switch from the dash area is not the micro switch sound for sure. So is the micro switch bad? Should I take the bolt out on rear brakes, remove the hook bar with the star shaped cutout and Release the cable totally to release pressure on the motor end and push dash button and see if motor spins and cable retracts? Or is the motor and microswitch shot? Bike has 52k. How do you test brake motor and where is the connections?

Time to break out the multi meter and start testing for voltage!:dontknow: Switch, relays, motor could be any of them!!! Start at one point and work your way through it. Good luck!!

.

Good luck finding the gremlin that is causing the PB problem. When I started hearing about these problems, I started leaving the PB off in the garage and using wheel chocks. I did loosen the cable adjustment a little.

The click is coming from the WPM which contains four relays, two for the windshield and two for the parking brake, driving the two bi-directional motors: windshield (WM) and parking brake (PM). The PB microswitch (HBS) provides a ground to both the WPM and instrument cluster when closed. The PBS is SPDT with three wires to the WPM.

If you are measuring 12V between the PM terminals (not to ground) when the PBS is pressed then your PM likely failed. If you are measuring 0V then your WPM likely failed.

A verification test requires disconnecting the PM and driving it directly from a battery, preferably with the PM removed from your Spyder.

Sorry if I am stating the obvious... Are you holding pressure on the brake pedal while clicking parking brake off?
