Let me start off by saying mine is a 2008 RS SM5. I took it in Aug 04 2009 for its 20,000 Kilometer (12,500 miles)check up. They did all that and did the DPS Recall with software updates etc.. The bike ran good for a while & was getting good fuel economy. There were also some starting issues related to the Fog lights ( I took the HID's off & it started good from then on), there were also some issues with the fuel gauge. On October 7,2009 I took it back for the Updates to the Updates and to have the fuel gauge repaired. I took off all the Thibault luggage racks etc to save them some trouble if they wanted to disconnect the battery to do a system reset. They ordered a new fuel pump module as the fuel gauge sending unit is part of the fuel pump module. I think it was Nov 5 when I picked the Spyda up. I drove it about 80 km (50miles) and it just quit - lots of VSS, DPS etc scrolling across the dash. I pulled over and waited for the scrolling to stop & started it again - got about 50 feet & it quit again. While after a while it would just barely run and the low battery sign was on. It woulld turn over but not start. My GF was follwing me in my Ranger so we parked Spyda on a driveway and went & got my trailer & loaded the Spyda on and took it home and recharged the battery but, next day it still would not start. I discovered that one of the right rear turn signal wires was disconnected (possibly my bad) I hauled it back to the dealer and it is sitting there waiting for his techs to get over the Flu. So my questions to you are:
1) when people went to that Spyder get together where the Tech showed up and did about 20 Updates to the Updates - Did he do a battery disconnect to reset the system? 2) Is a reset like that necessary?
My concern is that, looking at the readings on my trip meter I don't believe that the Techs disconnected my battery after they did the updates & changed my fuel pump module. I called today and they still hadn't looked at my Spyda. I just find in talking to the service writer that he doesn't know that much about Spyders - just keeps talking about all the electronics as if there is no mechanical aspect to steering the Spyder and you sure don't want to mention that you read this or that on the internet forums. Sorry about the long rant. Just need to vent a little. I knew going in that with a brand new concept like the Spyder there would be a bit of a learning cuve for everyone, Riders, techs, salesmen and even BRP themselves. I just feel like the salesmen & repair people should be a lot keener on learning more about the product than they seem to. Just the same I put a deposit on a RT-S SE5 PE with trailer last week at the same dealers other store. Any info you got would be appreciated.
