• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. DPS recall, anyone else had it done yet?

Had it done last Monday. Had all of the updates done before hand, no problems. So far, so good. I will know more after this coming weekend. Our riding club is headed to the Iron Horse Lodge in the Robinsville,NC area. We'll tackle the Dragon and whatever else we can get into.

Had my PDS done yesterday at Town & Country in Cement City. Mine is a 2009 SM5 that I've been driving for over 2,000 miles without a single problem...didn't realize what I've been missing. A huge difference in steering...for the better. I dropped it off yesterday and they called this morning to pick it up. I had them install the 2nd performance package from Spyder Pops while I had it there. Took them and hour and 45 minutes to install it all and they only charged me for an hour's labor...$78.00...I continue to remain impressed with my dealer...and of course...My Spydie...:)

Hey Carl, where did you get yours done?

Hey Cool, have you tried playing with your tire pressures any to try and stabilize the situation? I would try taking the pressures down and see if that helps. I've been told thatyou should not exceed 19psi in the fronts with this new DPS...

19 in the fronts?? That's pretty high to begin with...I'm down to about 16-17 and I haven't gotten the update yet.

I found that the higher the number, the more bumpy the ride...I leave the back at around 26.

I think many here have gone with high tire pressure and it has led to more wear issues...

Ok I have been a skeptic of all the past DPS "fixes" and refused to do them because of many issues the "fix" caused as reported here.

I went as far as change a bad O2 sensor (warranty) on my dime because I did not want any bandaid fixes and possibly cause other problems if I had the dealer do it.

I watched closely as many people tried brainstorm the problem here and also watched many heated discussions on the philosophy of what a real fix is and the merits of getting bandaid type fixes.

I am now convinced that the DPS replacement campaign has merit and the problem has been properly identified and finally, properly addressed. I took the plunge and had mine replaced under the recall.

My first impressions are that it is a little more sensitive on the highway but not as drastic as some would lead you to believe. Low speed is about the same no significant changes that warrants comment.

I know a few are still on the fence but I would suggest getting it done as it's not going to get any better than this. I don't think they can really improve it beyond what it is today.

BTW I have an '08 SM5 that I have owned since Dec 07 PE #59.

I called my (new) dealer today. He said there are only 18 in front of me and he gets them 2 at a time and of course has to send the old ones back before he gets more. He did his first one this week. I figure an early spring appointment at this rate.:yikes:

Yes, it is two at a time...I'm sure it'll be before spring though...

My spyder is done but I am going to leave it at the dealership to put the replacement DPS unit in it because it was made before august 2010, I noticed the recall post in the RS forum and the wrench I have down there new about it but the dealership was not on it like they should have been IMO. anyone else rode with a new one?

Yeah Seth, I am riding on 2 new ones, one (RS-S SE5) is so-so but the one they put in 14 TOTALLY ROCKS! I will qualify that statement by saying that I also threw a set of RT shocks on as well. There is another DPS thread out there, I can dig it up and send it to you.

Yeah I was up there for a bit but I liked the roll, but with the new DPS it got completely unstable, so I'm down to 15.5 and it feels much better. My back tire is at the same number as yours. May play with that a bit as well.

Yes, but I'll need play around with it some more.

I liked the fronts at 20lbs, the rear at 30lbs. Dealer returned it to me with 15lbs front, 30lbs rear. The fronts were too soft, so I thought, so I pumped them back up to 20lbs figuring that would stabilize the ride back to where it was. Nope.

I'm getting used to the new DPS, but I still don't like it. I95 in CT has a lot of wear-in from the 18-wheelers (tarmac is higher in the center of the lane.) With the new DPS, the bars are moving to the groove of the road much more than they previously were, where it was a stiffer ride at high speed (above 60 mph.)

I'll post again should I find a better setup w/the tires. Until then, I'm still bummin'

20 is WAY too high for the OEM front tires -- this will greatly contribute to bouncing.....

Lower them and try it again-- if you still feel it's jumping around-- then get it back to your dealer ASAP-- something isn't right.

This new DPS absolutely ROCKS (Raptor even had his '14' done and now says he likes IT).

If you have it replaced and it doesn't handle BETTER than before--- then something ain't right. Yes it feels different--- but it's FAR superior to how the old units worked.

Many of us high mileage ryders, as well as 'aggressive' ryders have put it through the paces and everyone seems to really like it. (Lamont, Doc, Seth, Forrest, Myself, and many more....).

I ran mine 90 for 2 hours on my way home from TN--- weaving in and out-- really testing it----one handed, two handed-- sometimes no handed--- and it's on rails--- amazingly superior to before--- at all speeds.

Took it out again today on 'my' roads and it's just fantastic!

I think yours is really the exception here-- and may have a totally different problem (alignment, etc.).

I fully understand some being skeptical-- but this isn't just some half-baked software patch update--- this is a new piece of hardware. Give it a shot.

As far as them requiring the old ones back--- my guess is they have to return them to the actual manufacturer (KONGESBERG ).

Fly is right man - The new unit is TIGHT! I didn't like the first one on the RS-S at first either, but then I realized that my tire pressures were WAY too high for the new unit because it is so precise. So Iam playing with that situation and it's much better now.

But the work done on 14 is a completely different story. My corner speeds have increased by 10mph on average, the sweepers even more. I have had to learn a slightly different technique because of the shocks and the tendancy to pick up the inside front tire now - But 10mph faster AVERAGE! 14 is now a shredder; it's violent, exciting and completelty on the edge; and the new DPS is a big part of it. Steering is dead on precise now. I can one-hand at a buck 15 and make moves and it's not even a big deal - that's how good this new steering box is. I have complete faith in it - and I am pretty sure that I was one of the biggest skeptics of all!

But the way BRP is doing them is pretty straight across the board. The dealer will do some units, they send them back - and BRP sends them as many as they gave back. SO it's allocation by trade kind of thing. The dealer has a little say in how they create their lists, and that I cannot speak to. But in my humble opine, the new DPS unit is a huge success. :doorag:

Thank you for becoming a believer. You doubted, you experienced it, you believe!

Yessir! After today I am a TOTAL believer. I did some things today that were completely over the top, and 14 delivered the goods. This machine is a total shredder now. I can't believe the difference! I don't know why I have to put myself on the edge the way I do, and I do not condone this type of riding - but it's entoxicating to me. That's why I wanted to fly 18s for the Corps - but that's another story for another day! Let's stay on track here! This new DPS unit in my opinion is a huge success. :2thumbs:

Just got mine back form my Enfield dealer. Short ride home but the new unit did feel "smoother". Dealer did a great job .... short wait list, prompt notification and quick turn around. Nice to have a decent dealer close by.

Just got mine home. The steering is a lot less "notchy", it also seems a bit quicker steering...anyone else sense that?

Tripod :joke:

[2008 sm5, had it in for the recall, started to go for a ride on sunday, 33km from home VSS FAULT, CHECK DPS, and LIMP RIDE HOME. Got Spydee home , long drive tho at 40 mph on the hiway. Called dealer monday , only to be told it is/was a fuse under the seat. Took it back to dealer and still no call. ( Tuesday night ) A fuse ??????????????? HMMMMMMMMMM....:gaah:

Had mine done couple of weeks ago. Put about 200 miles on it Sat and Sun. Definitely more responsive especially over 60 mph. Not sure why. Seems to "bounce" more. For the record, I actually had no prob with the original one. Saw all the posts and panicked. Got it changed fast. Absolutely loving it! Went to bike night in Cape Coral and only saw 3 mine included. Gets a lot of attention.

Fuses seldom blow for no reason. The dealer needs to get to the root of this problem. It could be a bad DPS, that is drawing too much juice.
