Hi there. There is a recall on the can-am site about the Dynamic Power Steering on the Spyder Roadster. However, the site does not specify which models of the Spyder Roadster are effected.

Are ALL effected, even the 2010 models?

I called their 1-866 number, but there was a long wait so I decided to ask the question here instead. Thought you guys would know.
Thank you.

Thanks Lamont.

I know that some models ( cars, ATVs, motorcycles, etc.. ) come out late in the year ( the next year models ). I guess the 2010s were not out at the time of the recall, june, 2009.

Do you know when the new 2010 models of the Spyder Roadster RS and RS-S sports versions will be coming out in 2010?

Thank you.

Bump - Any 2010 Spyder RS (or any model) out with ANY issues (ie: steering, oil box issues, or otherwise...)

Thank you.

haha...

I'm not there yet, but closer now then I've been since I joined the forum :)

Still trying to cover my basis. I do NOT want to end up in an accident as a result of something like a KNOWN faulty device. I'm looking into the 2010 model RS and HOPING issues like the steering issue has been resolved/FIXED, thus the bump for this post.

thanks

The number of folks without problems far out number the those with problems. I ride a 2008 and find it to be both safe and reliable.

I'm not waiting for something that is perfect, I'm waiting for something to be safe and reliable.

thanks.

According to our (your) poll, 84.80% of respondents have had zero problems that qualify.

If you add in the 1 towable/reset event respondents the figure is 93.57%. Which means, to me, that the 1 time issue was resloved.

That leaves 6.43% with a repeat issue or multiple differing issues that qualified in your poll.

You only need 1 Spyder (the one you own) to be safe and reliable. At what percentage of Zero~One event issues does the Spyder qualify as "Safe & Reliable"?

Hi BajaRon. I understand your logic, however:

... Most products have issues, that is for sure. I'm just uneasy ( and I do not think I am alone, according to the 90+ pages of posts I've read the last three weeks ) about soooooooo many issues coming up about STEERING on the Spyders at least in 2008/2009 models. To me, this is a MAJOR safety concern. Also note, and please correct me if I'm am incorrect, but steering issues and steering units acting up does not necessarily leave you at the roadside?! So, the poll I posted does not really apply here as much as you suggest, but I do understand your logic, thank you.

I would be much much more forgiving if the issue was something like a rear fender cracking, or parking brake sticking once in a while, or paint chipping off the muffler, or wheel bearings pre-maturely wearing out before spec., etc... However, the issue I'm am concerned about the most, safety related, are the steering issues.

As I've read and understand, the fires that have been reported has been a very LOW number. As I've read and understand all of the posts here, including the official BRP recalls, the number of steering issues (coming up again and again, even after some have been updated by the dealers) are VERY HIGH, in comparison.

Please correct me if I'm incorrect.

I appreciate your time and replies.
thank you, everyone.

thank you, everyone.

The NHTSA still only ,lists ONE steering complaint in the 2009 year model?
If your sooo sceptical you should NOT even consider buying one!!
Let us have ALL the fun. Happy New Year!!!:shemademe_smilie:

I do appreciate the helpful replies on this and there other issues/questions I've had.
Thank you again.
Cheers.

For me there is a big difference between reliability and safety. Spyders have proven to be very reliable, and to the best of my knowledge, there have been only two safety issues.

I had the first fire we know of, so I am familiar with this issue. I have performed the canisterectomy and the catchcan for the crankcase breather. These changes and the additional information from subsequent fires leaves me completely comfortable with the fire safety of my new Spyder. I am not at all worried about a spontaneous fire with this Spyder.

In 72,600 miles on two Spyders I have never had any trouble whatsoever with the steering. I am keenly aware that others have had steering issues and I will respond quickly at the first sign of any kind of trouble with my steering. There is a very good chance that this will never happen. I expect to go 100,000 miles on the current Spyder without significant issues of any kind.

In the near future I expect that BRP will issue a report on the cause of the steering issues and the remedy they will employ. If you are not comfortable with this, wait until the report comes out before you buy a new Spyder.

And now there are 2 complaints to the NTHSA. I just filed mine. A second DPS unit was installed today and it will not calibrate and the remedy according to the BUDS is replace DPS. WTF kind of stuff is this. 17K to spend on something and I expect it to operate properly or at least for NEW, OUT OF THE BOX parts to correct the issues. Sorry if I sound bitter, but I now have the right to be. BRP, I hope you guys are reading the posts on this site. I have personally told 6 interested persons that were looking at the Spyder to save thier cash till the issues get fixed. I will continue this until I have been satisfied with the results of MY Spyder, not the other thousands that are operating properly.
