• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

**** "DO'S & DO NOTS" for NEW SPYDER OWNERS... ****

Codes Suggestion

Illinois Boy .... check this with RR (Roger); I believe his app is now available for direct download (free) as follows:
  • SpyderCodes for Android at the GooglePlay
  • MySpyder for iPhone at the Apple down load site

I believe the information is posted on the listed web site, so it might be redundant to show it here -- your choice.

Was giving this thread my periodic read (roughly twice a year) when I thought about the above.

Thanks for putting this thread together and also for maintaining it ... good job! Best Regards ... Ann

SPYDERS TO THE RESCUE link

When you get time, go to the Home Page and on the right hand side is a "SPYDERS TO THE RESCUE" link, read it and if you can, join it. Print it out just before a trip out of your comfort zone.

Cruzr Joe

Newbie Here (1 week)…Thanks for the “heads up” on the link to "SPYDERS TO THE RESCUE". My husband puts on a lot of miles traveling to speaking engagements (did on two wheels, before his accident, no doubt he will on three).

Note for newbies

recently found a great way to teach a hard headed newbie:

1)have them wear good earplugs to cut down on motor noise.
2) put the spyder in trailer mode so the person cannot shift too early hope this helps any new riders trying to break the low RPM habits

Do's and Do Nots

This post Do's and Do Nots is GREAT! I'm a newbie on a bike/Spyder (3 months) and been changing gears way to soon.
Thank you. This will make my ride even that much more enjoyable.
I've read the Do's and Do Nots at least 3 times now.

Sticy Post

Why this great list of information is not a "Sticky" for all to see all the time is beyond me. I'm always passing the link along to new riders, if someone has not already done so. I have the link on my 'favorites' list so it is easy to call up and forward to someone.

Wonder how we can request Lamont to 'stick' this great link on his web site?

Don

Right or not often newbies at a forum will ignore stickies because they are often seen as out of date. When a thread like the Do's and Do Nots is being recommended it gets notice and kept current and alive. Thus newbies check it out.

Two days ago, I hit the "Report Post" icon on the OP and reminded whoever reads those that there have been NUMEROUS requests to make this thread a "Sticky". I see that just happened. Maybe that's what did it.

In any event, no more "Bump" posts needed.

Thanks for the update that includes the 1330 engin

I traded from a 2013 RTS SE5 to a 2014 RTS SE6 - I had this post bookmarked for the 2013, now with the new updates that include the 2014, I am a happier rider. Good information - already read through twice.

It is a lot of work to make the update, I'm sure - but I am sure we will all appreciate it.

Good to see it is sticky too.

I am happily riding.

Thank you!

I just bought my new 2013 Spyder RT-Limited this past Saturday and was looking for some practical "do's and don'ts". Your post was perfect. I am printing it out as we speak to read more carefully.

What an awesome resource and a great idea. I am thankful that I could read all of this advice and the owners manual prior to driving my new ST-L home.

Many thanks to the OP and all contributors!
