Dogs in a hotel

So I'm here at the Lamplighter North. When I came back to the hotel, I went to the front desk for some change and there was a family checking in. They were getting multiple rooms and I saw a tiny poodle in the car outside. Apparently one extra room was for the dog, and they put it in the room next to mine. It has been yapping for about 3 hours now. At first I thought it was just because the people had gone to dinner and when they returned, it would settle down. But it just continues with it's high-pitched yapping!

So, what do I do? I think if I call the front desk, they'll just say there's nothing they can do. If I knock on the door of the neighbor and there's no one there, it may just set off the dog more.

They tried to stick us in a room that was next to that same yapping dog. We made them move us

About 30 minutes ago, I stepped outside and banged on the door. No one answered, but there's been no noise since then.

If this continues tonight or tomorrow night, I'll complain to the hotel. With any luck they're just passing through and will be gone tomorrow.

Call front desk and request to be moved and when you check out request a partial refund.

Here is another idea that may work - - download a dog whistle app to your phone and try it. Good luck.

Some well placed lead. Ok, ok, that's a little harsh. Happened to us once. Called the desk. Nothing happened. So I went to the desk. Told the clerk if they didn't do something about the dog I would shoot it. She immediately found us another room.

That normally DOES get their attention... :shocked:
Since we're often travelling with ours; we just have to accept, that we're not going to go to a Mall, a Restaurant, or a Movie.
Travelling with a pet requires a change in attitude... it appears as if the folks with this particular dog; shouldn't be travelling. :banghead:

A difficult situation. I am always one that is annoyed by "noisy neighbors" when staying at a hotel. Sometimes, I think I am the only considerate person in the place. :roflblack::roflblack: This happens even in four and five star places.

A request for a different room is probably the best way to solve the issue. Also a request for some "pain and suffering" when it comes time to square up the bill.

A necessary evil when traveling.

That sucks. The people that own the dog should be billed for your at the minimum. We travel with out dogs for agility competition & stay in hotels. Have never left our dogs in the room alone. Usually our room is in an area with other competitors, as they are blocked that way. It would sure irritate me if I had to put up with that. would probably sit outside their room until they came back.

I just got back to my room for the night. No noise from next door at all! :thumbup: Last night, the way it stopped suddenly after I pounded on their door, I'm wondering if they were playing with the dog and encouraging the barking.

Just leave a 4AM wake up call for them and another at 5AM. I personally would call the Police if the front desk refuses to do anything about it. Hotels do not like the Police around. I have done so on several occasions as I travelled for a living and stayed in Hotels for 35 years. Usually got a call from crew scheds in the wee hours of the morning to go to work. This is a good time to give them a wakeup call, then another just before you walk out the door.
