does anyone own a ford explorer

the lease on my INFINITI g37 is up in 2014. with my legs and feel hurting i am having a hard time getting in and out of the car. so now i am thinking of getting a SUV and i don't like the price or looks of the INFINITI SUV and was thinking of going with the EXPLORER. does anyone own one and what do you think of it. thanks for any info

I just switched from a ford fusion for the same reason of comfort and looked at a ton of different SUV's. My final choice came down to the Ford Explorer and Hyundai Santa Fe Limited. I chose the Hynundai and I like it for many reasons over the Ford and saved $10k for an equivalent equipped loaded version. Also the Hyundai has a longer bumper to bumper warranty. I have owned Hyundai's before for company vehicles and they are really good quality and compare up to Honda and Toyotas as well. I have owned over 24 new cars/suv/trucks between personal and business vehicles. If you need any assistance with buying one and getting the best price let me know!

Be careful about the entry height... Perhaps an Escape might suit you better.

I am a Subaru Forester owner. 2014. This is my third Forester--they are bigger and better than ever. Motor Trend SUV of the year this go around. Worth a look--IMO.


I had the 2007 Subaru Tribeca--but the entry height was starting to kill my hips.

i had a 98 outback and found it to be one of the most reliable cars i have ever owned but i don't like the low hp they have.

I just got a 2013 Ford C-Max and I am constantly amazed at how getting in and out is so easy. I just step in and out like I used to on the old tanks from the 60's and 70's (I think even easier).

I have almost 5000 miles and average 37.8 mpg and if I want to increase that I find some stop and go traffic as that always gives me a boost on mileage. Mostly because you don't use gas for that kind of driving. Many things about the C-Max have really been thought out properly (for a change) IMO.

The other day I was on a narrow country road posted 70 and behind an 18 wheeler doing 55 with very small places to to pass so I had to punch it WOW all the sudden I was doing 90 as I shot past the 18 wheeler, so the C-Max has plenty power.

Wife has an Escape as she decided the new Explorer was too big. Mom has the Explorer. Driving both of them, the Escape as more interior room despite its smaller size and is much easier to get in / out of. The Explorer does have more cargo room. Escape has better fuel economy and is a sportier handling vehicle. We looked at the C-max and were impressed with the mileage but its too small and no AWD option made it a non-starter. The Escape with the 2.0EB engine is very peppy and lots of low end torque, would never know you are driving a 4 banger....and I hate 4 banger cars. Its faster than my wife's previous Lincoln MKT with the 3.5EB do to the lighter weight. Moms Explorer is nice too and have been very reliable.

Here's what you do..!!

find your local car rental agency and rent the ones you have in minds for a week. If I'm going to spend that kind of money this is a good way to know. Test rides don't tell you much...as for which one...I drive a VW Sportswagen so I'm no help...good luck..!! hyea:

Default does anyone own a ford explorer

I own a 2013 Ford Explorer. It is a great 'truck' as that is how it is registered. Currently have 19000 miles without any problems. The Explorer has a max. towing capacity of 5000# making it a good tow vehicle for my trailer. If you purchase the towing package it comes with sway control. Around town I average about 21.3 mpg and on the highway I get about 26 mpg. Mine is powered with the 3.5 l non turbo V6. The vehicle is roomy and comfortable. I intended to purchase an Escape but the new body style made the vehicle seem small with poor visibility.
