• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Does anyone have directions on how to install the drive belt on a 2016 F3T ??
I also need to install an upgraded rear shock at the same time.

The basic process:

  • Remove the brake caliper and suspend with a bungee cord, tarp strap or cord to protect the brake line and parking brake cable
  • Remove the Drive Sprocket Cover
  • Depending on model and exhaust, you may need to remove the secondary muffler
  • Loosen rear wheel axle, removing the nut
  • As you are replacing the belt, which will be tighter than the old one, loosen the belt tensioners equally on both sides
  • Lift the Spyder using an appropriate jack
  • As the rear wheel begins to lift off the ground, remove the axle
  • Continue to lift the Spyder via the jack, allowing the wheel to remain on the floor/ground
  • Pay attention to support the brake mounting plate, spacers, etc.
  • Depending on model, the belt guards may need to be removed
  • The drive belt can now be removed from the Spyder
  • Assemble in reverse order, paying attention to getting the spacers back in position, and the brake mounting plate
  • Adjust belt tension and align drive belt.
    • Note: on our Spyders, the belt tension increases when the machine is resting on the ground, and sometimes the belt alignment will change slightly.
    • I place the front wheels on automotive wheel ramps, and a bottle jack under the rear shock mount to keep the Spyder in a "loaded" and reasonably level state.
    • I set out Spyders at 140# +/- 10# on the Krikit in the loaded state. Check tension at multiple places via rotating the wheel, but always mid-span between the drive and rear sprockets. The belt moves as the rear wheel is rotated.
    • Yes, this is less than factory spec. The only sprocket failure we have had was on one F3-L that had the high factory tension.
    • Aligning the belt in the loaded state also avoids having the belt move .
For details on each step, invest in the Service Manual as others have stated. It's hard to cover the photos and text in the manual which spans 10's of pages in a simple post on this forum.
