• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Do raccoons like Spyders?

Die you stripped bandits, die! Put an electric fencer around the bike , it keeps the pests away.

My dad hooked up a 12volt unit to the house main by accident (he was 75 at the time with the onset of Alzheimer's ) I was sitting on the back deck having coffee with dad when I seen a cat fly through the air as if he had been punted. When I looked at the fencer I seen that he had take the terminals that should go to a 12 source and wired a 120 plug to them. The cat survived amazingly enough but apparently 2 coons and a possum were not so lucky, I found their bodies up against the fence about 6' away. Apparently those old vintage 1970 were so simple by design it still worked fine that way. I recall it had a step up transformer and spring loaded set of points that bounced and send the pulse down the wire ever time the points came together.

Your renter's insurance probably won't cover this loss...
But the Comprehensive coverage on your Spyder should!
Less of course; that pesky deductible! :gaah:

Had mice make a nest in an air filter one year. Glad I noticed it before starting! If insurance won't cover it, have it recovered. Good excuse for a Russel Day Long! Send them the seat pan, and they do the rest!

That brings back memories! Had a mouse build a nest on the head of the riding lawnmower once, beneath the shroud. My wife didn't notice and started to mow the lawn. I drove into the driveway, coming home from work, just in time to see the flames fron the burning nest catch the fuel hose on fire. After I rescued my wife and put out the now raging fire, I had to rebuild the engine, which was thoroughly cooked. I hate those meeses to pieces!

Every morning when I get in my car to drive to work, I say hi to my Spyder. I've kept her covered and a battery tender on her all winter long. This morning was no different. However when I got home from work this evening I notice that there was a lot of green foam on the floor and the cover was off the front of the Spyder. Turns out that a raccoon (we're calling him Chewy) got into the Ultimate seat and made him/herself a little nest. It probably didn't help that the temperature this morning was -21 below 0.

I'm hoping this is covered under our renter's insurance. I'll find out tomorrow. I'm also going to call Ultimate Seats to see if they can recover the seat or if I need to purchase a new one.

Here are some pictures.

Well, based upon my experience as an insurance adjuster, your renter's insurance will not cover the loss. Homeowners (including renters) policies specifically exclude motorized land vehicles unless they are used for the maintenance of your property. Unfortunately, the Spyder does not fit that definition. Also, there are often exclusions for damage caused by domestic animals and vermin....which could include Rocky! You may have better luck checking with your insurance carrier for the Spyder. Cycle policies are far less standard than homeowners policies so you may have a shot going in that direction!

Well, I've got good news and bad news. The good news is my renter's insurance won't cover the loss, but my motorcycle insurance will. The bad news is my comprehensive deductible is more than the cost of a new seat. That's ok, I wanted it that way when I got the insurance.

I did call Ultimate Seats and they said that it would be cheaper to just buy a new seat, than to fix the old one. So I ordered an new seat yesterday. It should be here in 2 - 3 weeks. Fortunately the raccoon didn't touch the driver's and passenger's back rest so I didnt' have to replace those.

I haven't seen the raccoon lately but if he appears again, he will become a new farkle of some sort for the Spyder.

Thanks for all the support. This is a great group. I never say much but I read a lot. I hope to meet a lot of you at Spyderfest.

Take care,

Tony
