There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Disabled Vet another wheelchair rider

Hola Folks,

Like to say hello to all. I am a long time rider 35 years and after being injured
in Iraq I have found myself in a wheelchair. I have a beautiful 2006 GoldWing but with my injuries, short of triking it, I am unable to ride her.

After going back and forth and with a little fear, after reading alot of problems folks have had, I bought a 2009 Spyder today. i am praying that she does right by me as being stuck on the side of the road means really being stuck!!!

I have a great dealer here and am praying that the 2009 auto shift problems have been worked out. I am unable to shift by foot and had to go this route. Properly running it seems the ideal setup.

Anyway just wanted to say hello and please pray for my bike!!!!

Be safe,
Horse

Glad you're back on wheels, Horse. For peace of mind, among other things, you may want to consider the BEST warranty, which adds road service plus a warraty extension.

Thank you I think i will do that. My dealer is top notch but I like to do distance so......I have a Bushtec that i am going have modified to carry my chair just in case.

The BEST warranty is that from the dealer?

Thanks again

I'll jump in. Yes, your dealer (or any BRP dealer) and a reasonable cost to you would be in the $600-750 range for the additional three years coverage.

Thank you so much for your service and sacrifice. /o

One more thing...

Unless the bike you bought is fresh off the line, I'd push the dealer some to get them to perform this particular fix... a spring and a sensor. Seems to have corrected most of the SE problems once installed.

And, that sensor (the Gear Position Sensor) can cause other things to go screwy... see this post by me:

Thank you for the info. The more I read the more I wonder if i should have just had my Wing triked. Seems like a whole lot of problems and BRP is not even answering their phone.......Has anyone had a trouble free spyder or do they all have kinks......

While my Spyder has had its kinks, none of them have left me stranded on the side of the road in the 9k miles I've put on it. Granted I do ride the SM5 and not the SE5, but if you've got a good dealer and they upgrade before mentioned spring and sensor then you should be fine.

Thank you for your service and all that you've done for our country. I'm glad to hear that you'll be back to riding.

Thank you all for the warm welcome and info. I am really scrathing my head now as I read more and more about the problems with this machine. If it was as easy as getting off and looking for what came loose, this time, I wouldn't worry but given my injuries I can't do that not to mention I live in a moutain state where half the time you can't get cell phone reception....

I am seriously considering canceling my spyder and waiting until A. the machine works and B. the manufactures seems interested in the after sale. From numerous threads it looks like they won't even answer their phones, parts take months to get and $650 every 3000 miles for service....

I love my Wing because when i get on her I know I will make it home. Seems like I just put big money into a shop queen, ^%$%&

First of all, Thank you for your service and all that you've done for our country.
welcome
:congrats: on your :spyder:

I wouldn't second guess yourself. They truly are wonderful machines. Getting a 2009, the dealer might have had the fixes done but I would check with them just in case.

I have a SM5 and I have such a great relationship with my dealer. When my :spyder2: had it's kink, I called my salesman and he transferred me to his service guy that sent a guy and a trailer to pick up my bike. Mind you, the dealer is about 45 mins in another state. When they were done they even delivered my :spyder2: back to my house. I know not every dealer will do this but I am sure it helped that I had a good relationship with the dealer and that it was a BRAND Spanking New bike out of the crate. I also have the BEST warranty.

We have had absolutely no mechanical or electrical troubles with our SM5. I can't speak to the SE5, but I will admit to being pleased that my wife backed off on her initial order, and decided to learn to ride with a clutch. Seems like more of the SE5s have had reported problems, and some of those could have stranded you. I don't think they apply to all SE5s, and maybe not even a majority, but there are enough to cause some worry. By the same token, a Wing trike conversion, an SM5, or even a new four-wheeler may not be trouble free. There is no such thing as a failure-proof vehicle! At some point you have to decide what will work best for your situation, and figure out some contingencies for any difficulties that may arise on the road. No different from starting out on a cross-country trip on an old Triumph, in that regard. :D

I'm not saying your Spyder will never have any problems but I probably have more miles on a Spyder than most (25,000+) and ride it like I stole it and the only problems I've had were self inflected.

I don't know what year Wing you have but I run www.GL1800Riders.com and if you spend enough time on that site you would think the same about the wing, especially when they first came out and they had overheating problems along with cracked frames.

Any message board is going to highlight the problems with that product that the board is setup for. I'm not saying the Spyder hasn't had it's share of problems but I don't think it's any more than any other vehicle on the road. They all have issues because they are man made.

I think the Spyder is a well thought out machine and dollar for dollar you won't find more bang for the buck. You got to do what feels right for you but I wouldn't give up on the Spyder because of a few of the post here. There are way more folks on here that have had no problems with their Spyders than there are who have. There's just nothing to say when everything works. :doorag:

I agree the first years of the new wing had all sorts of problems but Honda was quick to acknowledge and fix them. Seems BRP is a little hesitent.I have a 2006 which has been a dream. That said they should have named the spyder the black widow because I am bitten. Batten down the hatchesbe cause here I come!!!

Thanks for all the input and as glitches happen I will turn to my fellow addicts here and find a solution. I also have a GREAT dealer here in Vermont, Land Air in Essex. They have gone above and beyond so many times in the last 15 years I can't even count. Ever in the area swing by, great folks and honest as the day is long.

See ya on the road, again!!!! Ya Baby!!!

Thank you all for thanking me for my service. I was brought up old fashion and to me there is no greater honor then serving my Nation. My wounds I wear with pride, my head I hold high and I play the hand dealt me.

My son is healthy, my dog loves me and my spyder is on the way. I live by the ability left in the man, not the disability. So thanks are not in order as I only did my duty but it is appreciated.

BRP appears to be on top of the two main SE problems with the sensor/spring fix. I sold a 2006 Goldwing after I bought the Spyder. I did keep my Valkyrie although it absolutely doesn't get ridden. I may sell it.

The Spyder is an absolute hoot to ride. Congrats on your purchase!

:congrats:
