• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Disability Plates - Texas only allows 1 plate per Operator! Is the Law the same in your State? What's Your Opinion?

I didn't do anything dang thing with the Spyder today.
I've got the flu, and I can't remember ever feeling this rough before. My poor wife has had it for 2 weeks. I was really concerned about her. Poor thing had it worse than me I think.
Severe headache, severe body aches, sick to my stomach and no appetite, coughing, chests on fire, my whole head and my jaws ache something fierce. We're both 67 so I'm a bit concerned about that plus I've only got one lung from a military mishap that almost boxed me. In fact they flew my wife to the country of Panama to say goodbye to me. Intensive care for 60 days. So I have to keep that in mind.
We both have had covid twice so far. Not sure what this crud is but it ain't right.

I've had the sneer before when I park my jeep in the handicap spot with my disabled Veteran plate. Screw em! If they only knew the level of injuries and pain I'm normally in. 100% DAV and Damn proud of it. I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. When you're still awake and you watch the Army Surgeon cut your chest open and stick his gloved hand in your chest cavity, you just don't get over it easily. Oh well.

Besides, people should realise that not all 'disabilities' are obvious &/or outwardly visible, nor, as you rightly pointed out, how much difficulty & pain a person might be in, even if they might 'look' to them as being perfectly fine as they climb out of or off whatever form of transportation they might use! I don't call my Spyder my 'High Speed Mobility Scooter' for nothing! ;)

Ps: I do hope you'n your Missus get over that flu soon! There've been a few bad strains of that going around lately, some particularly nasty! So Get Well Soon, OK! 🙏

It appears that in Michigan you may have one plate and one hanging placard. Renewal required every four years on your birthday.

I've noticed over the years that it seems those with greater disabilities seem to be more resolved than those with less debilitating issues. Sadly, a local incident took a bad turn when two individuals took an incident further than necessary. According to witnesses, two disabled old farts got into a pushing/shoving match over a DV parking spot and one of them slipped and fell hitting his head on the pavement and died as a result. No charges were ever filed.

It's the same in Florida, only one permanent plate, but you can get a placard for your other car. It's ridiculous that they treat all disabled drivers like they're trying to cheat the system. I used ParkingMD to handle my renewal online instead of standing in line

Here in Illinois, I believe it's still only 1 HC hanging placard and I DV plate. I have the DV Plate on the Spyder (left leg amputee here) and the hanging Placard in my truck. We do have a 3rd vehicle as well.

Yes, I agree at times, it would be nice to have a third Placard/DV plate (usually I forget to get it out of the truck when utilizing the car) but by the same token I am happy and thankful just to have the ones I have.

Forgetting is on me. Makes me, hopefully, not to forget the next time.
Still, thankful and grateful, for the 2 I do have.
 
VA is the same. I can only get the one placard.
It's like the disabled aren't supposed to own more than one car. 🤬

I only use the HC spots if there are no other reasonable parking spots, but I am forever getting somewhere and finding my placard is in one of the other vehicles. It's very frustrating.
 
Here in the UK, we get a Blue Badge. Yes, that's what its called. It covers any vehicle the disabled person is in. You just have to take it with you and place it in the windscreen.

I have one, but I don't know how to use it on my Ryker because it would get nicked!

I recently purchased my 1st Spyder, a 2024 RT Sea to Sky. I'm 62 and disabled due to an Ankle Replacement that didn't go right and left me cane dependent.

I went to register my Spyder at my local Texas DMV Office. Much to my surprise they would only give me handicapped disability plates for my Spyder if I surrendered my handicapped disability plates from my Pick-up truck. To make a long story short, Texas for some reason will only allow an operator to possess 1 disability license plate and any other vehicle they own must use a placard displayed through the windshield, usually hung from one's mirror.

Quite frankly, I'm more than a bit irritated by this and will be sending correspondence to my Federal and State Legislators to try and get the law to allow handicapped people to be granted more than one disability plate. A friend of mine told me that if you are a disabled veteran the State allows you to have two handicapped license plates, any owned vehicle beyond that would have to have a placard. To me, disabled is disabled, it shouldn't matter whether one is a disabled veteran or not, every handicapped operator should be entitled to at least two handicapped license plates IMHO.

Obviously one won't be hanging a placard from their Spyder. The disability license plate would have to go on the Spyder. Most people who are not handicapped will probably think that this is no big deal. On the other hand, handicapped operators will certainly be able to relate to the frustration of traveling to your destination only to discover that you've left your placard in your other vehicle, which becomes a real "pain" when you have to walk a long distance to enter a store or local business. Is the law the same in your State?

In Ohio, I was able to get handicap plates for BOTH my Spyder and my Subaru vehicle.
 
The Utah DMV allowed me to purchase a plate which I did for the Spyder. They also allow me one placard which I use to switch between cars.
 
Here in the UK, we don't get plates that show disability for parking, they just show year and place of first reg.

We get a plastic type folder with your photo in it, which can be used on any vehicle you are in
or on.
 
Last year, I was able to send enough requests to TX legislators that a bill was created. HB5358 made it as far as the Transportation committee but that is where it died. I have created a petition on change.org to try to get this back on the next legislative session but it has been an uphill battle. Sharing it here so maybe we can gain some momentum.
