Digital gauge accuracy confirmed

I've read a number of posts testifying to the accuracy of the in-dash digital gauges once the Spyder is switched over to them.

Two weeks ago I color matched the dash panel on my Pearl White RT and while at it I disconnected the analog fuel and temp gauges and replaced them with Voltmeter and Oil Pressure.

I know have run three tankfuls of gasoline through the RT and in each case the digital fuel gauge read out is substantially more accurate than the old analog gauge. I used to have the low fuel light come on once the analog gauge got down under 1/4 full but when I filled up the most I could ever get in the tank was between 4.5 and 4.8 gallons.

The digital gauge kicks on the low fuel light once it gets to the bottom bar and when I fill up the amount runs between 5.3 and 5.4 gallons. Tonight I decided to stretch it a bit and managed to get 5.7 gallons in but I don't think I will chance that too often.

You are absolutely right. I never put 5 gallons in my Spyder until I went to the digital gauges. They should just make them standard and put something else in their place.

For me the accuracy came after the last update. The gauge is more in line what is actually in the tank. My gas light used to come on at approx 120 miles....now it comes on at 165-170 for "normal" driving...145 at 70 and above highway speeds. I too never put 5 gallons in before this. Now i'm 5+ each tank.

I would not be comfortable with having to put 5+ in each time I filled. That means I only had 20-30 miles or less of range left. Too close for comfort for me, thank you very much. My 2010 RTS did that, and I was always nervous. I prefer the 4.0-4.5 gallon fills every time. JMHO

+1:2thumbs:

After about a week of riding with the digital gauges instead of the other ones, I am very happy with the results. No more wavy needle. My light came on when it hit the last bar also. Took 4.9 to fill it up shortly thereafter.

I am still hoping BRP will come up with some different gauges.

I was worried the light was out. I was at top edge of red line. 175mi today when it finally came on. I went another 15mi before I stopped and it only held 5.0 gallons.:yikes: is our :spyder2: on the blink. 37mpg..

I took mine for the first longer ride out of town the other day and did some additional riding around town. The last bar diappeared from the display as I was on my way to the gas station. I filled the tank with 5.2 gal-a little to close for comfort. Dale

Well, can't top lamonts post , so we will have to leave it at that..:roflblack::roflblack:

Just my opinion, but I've never had a bike that I didn't use the trip odometer as a fuel gauge. Harley gauges were always a joke, but the Goldwing had a very accurate fuel gauge. Regardless, I always would just reset the trip odometer when I fueled up, and depending on the range of the bike, I'd get gas at a predetermined mileage point. With the Spyder that point is between 130 and 150 miles. That leaves plenty of comfort margin and piece of mind.
Again, this is just my opinion, but I really like piece of mind. And using the odometer gives me that. Pushing the limit between fill ups is best left to TV characters playing the role of an idiot!
