• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Digital Gas Gaga

So I have had my analog Gage's disconnected for about a year with no issues with the digital Gage's. I took it in for the 9,000 service today. They said they changed the oil and applied the throttle body update. On the way home I notice the gas warning light is on and the gage shows empty. I didn't think I was that close to empty but I stopped at a station. It took about a gallon. Seems the digital gage is not working and he gas warning lite is always on. Great. Have not had many issues with my RT so I guess Iam due.

It is a result of the throttle body update. The dealer needs to update to the new release of BUDS, just released Friday, and download the update again. That should cure the issue. Have the dealer contact BRP dealer tech support for more information.

I agree with Scotty. The same thing happened to me when I had the 24,000 mile service done on April 6, 2012. The Service Manager knew there was a problem but was inable to reach BRP Tech because it was just before the Easter Holiday and apparently everyone was out of pocket. It wasn't a serious problem as far as I was concerned since I've ridden many more miles without a fuel gauge than I have with one and they assured me that they would fix it as soon as they contacted BRP. Today, 4/17/2012 was the first chance I had to take it in and they downloaded the new software and fixed the problem. Apparently, BRP issued the new software on 4/12/2012. Problem resolved.

I have another question, though, maybe you can answer it, Scotty. I'm aware that the technician connects to BUDS after every service to update and maintain records for each individual Spyder as well as assuring that all applicable upgrades have been completed. However, the Service Manager told me that BUDS also updated the service interval in the machine itself and that if this wasn't done, a message would appear on the display showing that a service was required. I wasn't aware of this and I asked him what would happen if I did the service myself and, obviously, had no access to BUDS. He kind of sheepishly said that he guessed I would just have to look at the warning light since I had no way to turn it off. I haven't heard of this occuring with anybody and I know there are many who do their own service. Is anyone else aware of this situation?

By the way, for those who have wondered about valve adjustment, the valve lash on mine was still within specifications at 24,074 miles.

Thanks all. I have contacted the dealer and they will do the update as soon as I can get back over there.

My dealer said the opposite when I asked, so who knows? I know that some years ago at 50,000 miles when the O2 sensor was supposed to be changed on cars, the check engine light came on and remained on until the dealer reset the computer when he serviced the O2 sensor. Maybe there is a similar function in the Spyder, but I have not read it in the shop manual or heard of it before. We'd need some inside information to know for certain.

I haven't read anything in the shop manual, either, and I know there are folks who do their own service and never take their Spyders to a dealer. I had a 1989 Mazda pickup that set a check engine light at, if I remember correctly, 60,000 miles when the timing belt was supposed to be changed. But the difference was that the check engine light could be turned off by swapping two wires on a connector under the dash so it didn't require access to proprietary software. The reset procedure was covered in a Chilton Manual.

My digital gauge failed after the new update, Dealer contacted BRP and they said it was the first they have heard of this problem. They had dealer check with different cluster and it was fine. BRP authorized a new cluster and we are waiting for delivery.:(

Yours seems to be the exception. Others have been cured with the new version of BUDS. Your dealer probably contacted BRP too early in the process. They should be up to speed now. Some of the dealers may not be, however.

My dealer did not know about the new update for the BUDS system until I told them about it. They got the new update and reflashed the computer and now the digital gas gauge works as designed. I am now a very happy camper.:D

Mine digital gauge shows newer full tank, offset.

I have a RS 09' love it, but Mine digital gauge shows newer full tank, offset, about 2 dots. Is there some solution for this problem
