Difference between a stock RSS windshield vs touring wind shield?

Got back from my longest ride with 2 of my buddies. It was only about 85 miles total, I know that's not a very long haul to most of you ha. Keep in mind I'm only about a 4 day older rider.

I really only had 2 discomforts the entire ride.

First, was my throttle hand was cramping. One of my buddies gave me a little thing to put on the throttle and told me to relax my hand, and it helped tremendously.

Second issue was my windshield. I have the stock windshield for the 13' RS-S. When going at high speeds (65-85 mph) with that wind shield, it took a tole on me. I test drove my buddies spider and he has the touring 25" wind shield. It was a WORLD of difference. I can't wait to get one. I would think most if not ALL people would HAVE to have a windshield like that to ride right?

What other accessories would you guys consider a "must have"?

Several types of gloves. They act as insulators between your hands and the handlebars. I find they take some of the vib out of vibrations. They also keep your hands from oiling up the handgrips.

For me it was all about the GRIPS! the vibrations just made my hands hurts! My first mod was anti-vib grips and it opened a entire new word of riding! ENJOY

We are used to a w/s that is about 1 to 2 inches wider then the ultimate shield offered by BRP. I know what you went through you will toughen up it just takes a while. I am still working on it and I am only 72 with over 50 years of saddle time. Hang tough!

Passengers?

With my wife and daughter riding with me much of the time, my first option was the back rack and back rest. After that I went for the comfort seat. My next upgrade will most likely be either heated grips (as I rode about 2400 miles last month and my hands were cold much of the time), or the passenger peg extensions.
I did an hour and 40 mins worth of interstate travel the other day, and had a headache when I finally parked the bike. I think the constant wind (as I was traveling between 75 and 80 mph) was the issue. Let me know how a new shield works out for you.

Just sayin'............

Since your only a few rides old on your Spyder, your neck muscles are not used to riding yet. Once your neck muscles get used to riding a sport bike, you will not notice it. No lie.......

If you like the look of your spyder better than your buddies, I suggest you give it some time before you make such a drastic change.

I actually prefer my short RS windshield to my 25" touring windshield. I'm just at the wrong height (5'-9") that with the touring, my head is right in the buffeting zone, which is a pain in the neck, literally, as my helmet is knocked around. With the stock one the air is taken off my chest but my helmet is in clean air. + I think I get better mpg without having to push that barn door through the air.

My opinion may change however, after I install my risers and sit more upright.

FYI,
I would take a look at the madstad adjustable windshield or robobracket system. I have tried numerous windshields & ended up with a 22 inch light gray madstad. I tried calsci tall & hated the buffeting & looking thru, also the BRP 25 touring with same results.

I think you just need to ride more. Your body just isn't used to it.

I have rode bikes for 48 years now with and with out fairings or windshields and have been ask when they see you in a sport bike posture ( isn't that uncomfortable) what most don't understand is that in the forward lean mode you need some wind to pass the windshield then your chest is cupped and the wind lifts you just a little which takes weight off your arms and tail this is by design so that at highway speeds your weight is spread between arms ,feet and tail and you are in the ready stance to control the machine the feet forward high bars mode puts all your weight on your tail and you are slower to react to the road like other s have said give it some time if you change one thing it will cause a reaction elsewhere the designers usually get it close stock, do get a cramp buster for the throttle they don't put those on stock because of the lawyers

windshield choice

Just a word of warning, my wife doesn't like me to have the BRP 25" windshield on when she comes with me. It sends the air up and over me, and dumps it all right in her face. No such problem with the stock shield, or the givi shield.

The type of windscreen you will be happiest with depends upon how you like to ryde. You get the benefit of hearing from others on this forum who have been through multiple windscreens like myself. I still use the stock windscreen every once in a while, but mainly keep my Givi on the Spyder. I also have the BRP Sport Touring but that one turned me into a bobble head so I don't use it anymore. Sometimes it feels really good to have that extra bit of wind in your chest. I have never tried a taller windscreen than the Givi, but would definitely be willing to try the Madstad with Robobrackets based on the reports I have read over the years on this forum.
