There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. So this is a safety issue, like not being able to start and move your vehicle out of the way of traffic issues, lightning storms , etc. This needs many people to open a NHTSA case as safety issue so that Can Am is forced to not only replace but replace the system with something that actually works , first time every time. This should include the antenna and /or keylock as they are integral on the later spyders like my 2019 RTL.
If 1000 people do this NHSTA will be forced to open an investigation. BOMBARD them people !!!!!!!

Has anyone had any DESS errors/or problems lately on the new spyder models (2020 +)?

2014 Starting to get the error on mine now. Out of warranty. Anyone have an idea what the cost is to fix this? I am sure my local dealer here in GA will not disable it.

This thread is the gift that keeps on giving!! Good job girl, I think it's the all-time longest right up with, what did you do to your Spyder today!

Go back to the first post and read down through them one more time. :2thumbs: Then find some one that has BUDS and get it unhooked! Good luck my friend!! Technology you got to love it, and hate it at the same time.

I have read the entire thread. It has been a long morning, lol. More info, this has been happening for a bit off and on. I can get by it, sometimes quickly, sometimes not (turning key on/off, waiting, etc). Does anyone know someone in the Atlanta area that can turn it off? If you don't want to post it, PM me. Thanks.

The DESS error was covered by an SB!
Sorry no longer remember number - look it up.
An SB should mean (it is COVERED) by BRP and should not need to worry about cost.
So "maybe" to save $$$ the Dealership will just disable via BUDs; then again maybe not.
But the cost should be on BRP, not you.
Check it out.

Found that. So if it has a SB, it is covered, even though it out of warranty??

Since you are on the "DESS" thread, you think you have a DESS Failure issue ..... (ie. orange screen of Death). Contact your Dealer and see if they know about the SB and IF they will honor it? ..... As far as cancelling it, I seriously doubt the dealer will or even can do that ..... good news .... I'm pretty sure the "Netzley boys" will be selling at "Maggie Valley" in the beginning of Oct. (check the dates posted on the Home page) .... they now have the capability to CANCEL the DESS module. I would contact them and ask and or set up an appointment .... good luck .... Mike .... I just discovered that BAJARON (in Tenn.) can cancel DESS also ..... M

Hawk,

I don't know what the cost would be to fix it. The dealerships wont fix the disable DESS.

Hawk,

Where did you find the above info?

I apologize if this has been addressed before, I didn't take time to read all 1100+ post. Has anyone looked into a relation between battery voltage and the dess error? This spring I started to get the error occasionally. It became more frequent as time went by. Never had a problem starting after removing the key and reinserting. The end of July my battery died, after replacing it I have not had the error again. This may be totally unrelated, but could be a cause for at least some of the errors.

Hi 3Tyme,

When I started this thread (on 8/13/2015) I had the OEM battery and at the time the OEM battery voltage was normal. Also, I replaced the OEM battery in 2017.

At the time I had a 2014 RTS-SE6 (I sold that in May of 2023). When I had the D.E.S.S. The module changed on 7/14/2015, I had 6,994 miles. The 2nd time I had the D.E.S.S. The module and the Switch replaced was on Aug. 28th, 2015, and at that time my 2014 RTS-SE6 spyder had 8,740 miles.

On July 14th, 2015 the dealership replaced the DESS Module (part # 710004190) which was under warranty. I got from the dealership the following info saying why the DESS error happens: Roadster 2014-015 D.E.S.S Error Displayed in Cluster_000104494_ TST61Y014S10_en Summary: This TST explains the reason a customer may experience, intermittently a D.E.S.S error message in the Cluster.

TST Detail: Refer to TST Roadster 2nd Generation D.E.S.S Principal of Operation (2014 and Up) to fully understand the principle of operation of the latest D.E.S.S generation.

Problem: Intermittently, the ignition key may not be recognized causing the unit not to start. The D.E.S.S ERROR message will be displayed in the Cluster.

Solution Replace the D.E.S.S module.
Program the keys using the B.U.D.S. referring to the 2014 RT shop manual section Digitally Encoded Security System (D.E.S.S.)

Note: If after the replacement of the D.E.S.S module the problem reoccurs, update the previously opened BOSSWeb case or open a BOSSWeb Case and report this situation.

Technical Explanation:

When the D.E.S.S. module sends its signal to the antenna to read the key chip, the radio frequency produced by the antenna is too strong and the key chip is saturated. This saturation changes the data transmitted back to the D.E.S.S module causing a bad lecture of the key chip.

More info. Turn the key on/off IMMEDIATELY and DO NOT LET THE SYSTEM SHUT DOWN do that for about 4 to 5 cycles.

What Spyder do you have?

What year is your Spyder?

I hope the above info helps.

2015 F3S, just stating that I haven't had any problems since replacing the battery. Is it possible that a slightly low battery voltage could trigger the error? (in at least some cases, or more easily cause the error if there is a problem starting to develop?) I plan on having DESS disabled, just so I don't have to worry about it.
