Well I picked up my Spyder this morning from the Dealer 2-13-18. Here is the Dealer comments as written on the work order. No codes stored in (BUDS). But we and BRP have seen this before, BRPS recommendation is to change out the DESS MODULE. If it comes back, then replace the DESS ANTENNA. So the DESS MODULE was replaced, and both my keys were reprogrammed. This was accomplished under extended warranty and with no charges to me. I'm a happy camper and hope that this takes care of my DESS issue.ray:
Cheers
The 2nd time my dealership replaced the DESS MODULE, Ignition Switch, Reprogramed the Keys, Changed the trunk lock/and gave me a new trailer lock (On Aug. 28, 2015). The above work was done @ 8,740 miles, and since then I have not had the DESS Key code show up on the screen. My current mileage is 22,000. Also, I have a 2014RTS-SE6.
The first time (on July 14,2015) my dealership replaced only the DESS MODULE.
I hope you don't get the DESS issue. Good Luck!
Deanna

A1A, I hope I don't get another DESS issue either. If I do I'll post on this Thread ( which I started in July of 2015), If I do I know it is covered under the B.E.S.T Warranty. Thanks Deanna, I had 18,803 miles on mine when the DESS MODULE was replaced. I also hope you do not get another DESS issue as well.
Cheers
AJ, :agree: DeannaThat DESS "antenna" they are speaking of is part of the ignition switch on a 2014. So the ignition switch is what they will replace.

From everything I know about DESS (and this is just a little more than most :roflblack..... I have not heard of any extra electrical stuff being an issue..... The DESS module interacts with the chip in the ignition switch ..... Some here have had to get an ignition switch in conjunction with the module ..... I didn't but it isn't clear in the minds at BRP EXACTLY what causes the DESS failure...... there have been 4 different modules since 2014 ...... IMHO some engineer decided to fix a non-existent problem ..... the 2009 to 2013 didn't have a problem .... then the module was changed and BRP has problems up the WaZoo :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:.... go figure ... Mike
I've had my DESS module replaced .... by real BRP Tech's ...... they told me the keys have nothing to do with the DESS module ..... and they didn't do mine .......... So either your dealer isn't as up on this as they think they are, or they just did it anyway for some unknown reason ...... Mike
Any suggestions on how I can locate someone with the ability to disable DESS should I decide to do that?Requires MegaTech version of BUDS. Several shops around the country offer it, including ours. Most dealers do not opt for the upgraded version that has access to the security system. In BUDS, its a simple toggle of a setting.
