DESS Error on 2014 ST

So the other day I got the DESS error on my 2014 ST. Walked away with the key for a minute or two and then it started right up and it's been fine ever since.

I know most of the talk here has been about bad DESS modules on 2014 RT's; did the 2014 ST use the same part number (710003595?)

Is the lack of reported problems on ST's because it's not a systemic problem for ST's or because there are so many more RT owners here than ST owners?

Take it to your dealer and have the DESS replaced. All 2014's have the same key and DESS and will have the same problems. This board is just polluted with RT owners. the reason for the distorted view.
Walking away with the key for a couple minutes (Magical Key Walk) was just a coincidence that it worked.

There is not a known number and it has run into the 15's as well. I would take it in cause many work like yours but can go out later on without coming back and if your out could be a big problem. Seems to be a change as they fail thing..:banghead::banghead:

I have the same ride here....no problem yet. I will monitor this post. Thanks. :thumbup:

I had the same DESS problem. I disconnected the positive side of the battery and let it stand for 30 min.
this reset the ECM and is working fine. I have taken it to my dealer and they ordered me a new DESS mod.
They say the problem will return.

mine first acted up @ ~300 miles then not a hint for problems till ~6000 miles. The second time it didn't reset, switch and DESS module replaced. :clap:hyea:

Go to my thread " Pictures of D.E.S.S KEY CODE ON A 2014RTS-SE6" by Deanna777..........to get the part # for your 2014 ST.

Also, if you get the D.E.S.S key code on your screen, take a picture and bring it to your can-am dealership, and then they can't say it did not happen. Other spyder owners have gone to the above "Thread" and got the new part #'s for their model, and year. Keep us posted on this ,or you can send me a pm. Deanna

had the same problem with my 2014 rss useto keep key in garage near my spyder I had the dss flash would not start so took the key in my house it is 35ft away from my spyder went back out in about 20 minutes and it started right up, have not had that problem any more so I keep the key in my home now, easy fix:yes::yes::yes:

from personal experience it's one of those erratic problems that happens occasionally and can usually be fixed by just letting your Spyder completely reboot (about 30 seconds). It may restart, but the problem WILL NOT GO AWAY and must be fixed! As they say,"just do it!, you'll be way ahead of the game.

The transponder in the key has a range of about 1 inch max. So storing it farther away would make no difference. Also the DESS only communicates with the key just after turning on the ignition. So you could leave the key in the ignition and it would make no difference.
