• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Depreciation Rate

He's showing some pretty healthy prices for Spyders, and even shows one 2013 RTS SE5 as sold with a listed price of $19,995 with 9311 miles. Wonder what he actually sold it for. Maybe he's a superb salesman and can suck an extra grand or two out of a buyer.

All this discussion is starting to make me feel pessimistic about selling my 2013 RT base model. I'm trying to decide if I should low ball the price to start with and be firm, or add a thousand or so and give myself negotiating margin.

Brian, around our area the trade in value is not good in my opinion.
One of our members bought a new 2014 in 2014 from Bert's and he only got 10K (as I recall) for his 2010 RT with about 14K on it.

Dealers in this area here do put them up on craigslist (especially places like Whittier Fun Center) and if they do not sell, they go to auction. Where they go after that... who knows.

If I ever go to get a new one and trade in my 2011 I am sure I will get offered less than 10K. Therefor what I plan to do if I make that decision, is to post mine on craigslist and try to sell it before going and buy a new one (what's the rush). If I cannot sell it then I guess I am stuck taking what the dealer wants for it in trade.....

$10K???!! Well, they are in the business to move units not make friends. I wonder if there would be a difference if he went to a small dealer vs the mega dealer. If so that would be a plug for the small dealer. But they don't have the inventory of the big dealer. However last year at the Canyon Cruise I saw only 3 Spyders on the showroom, B&B in Victorville also has 3 (all black) and their showroom is about 1%...or less..the size of Berts. And they are easier to talk to. Wonder what RickyLens deals are like at Spyderfest?

Though I'm fortunate to live in a country were things tend to depreciate more based on condition/mileage than age I also have a different approach.

The reason I buy a bike is because riding them is an intrinsic part of my existence. It's my one vice and addiction. So to me the only financial 'value' a bike has is whatever loan is outstanding on it, even if that's just the hole in the savings that was used to buy it. Once that loan has been paid off or the savings re-saved, then the bike has a 0 financial value and the fun I have continuing to ride it is 100% profit. If I do sell it, and to be honest I tend to run all my bikes into the ground, then anything I make on the sale is a bonus.

Yup, been there. Even have the house at the shore to park them and ditch the wife...[emoji38]

I'll be at the AC Boat Show Saturday morning, it will be a cluster that day. I'm taking my fiance and 80 year old father. He like to find deals on fishing stuff. I had the bug to get a boat the end of last season, hopefully I can make it through the show without signing anything.
