There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Dealer's first 12,000 mike service

Took my wife's 2010 RT in Wednesday for the 12,000 mile service. Dropped it off early and it was promised by 4 pm. At 6 pm the bike was still not put back together. At noon today (Thursday) service manager told me that it would be another week as parts had to be ordered.

Since we are leaving on a trip this Sunday and reservations have already been made I told him that was unsatisfactory. They reassembled everything and we picked the bike up this afternoon.

The manager confessed that they had never had a Spyder in with that many miles on it before and this was the first 12,000 mile service they had ever performed. As a result they didn't know it takes 8 hours plus to do this. I bought the dealer service package with the bike so I am glad I didn't have to pay the $943 bill and $807 of that was labor. In addition to oil, filter, air filter, etc. they also drain and refill coolant, brake fluid, replace plugs, adjust valves and a whole bunch of other stuff.

In case you plan to take your RT in for the 12,000 mile service make certain the dealer knows they have to have the following parts on hand:

707600650 Slip joint; 514053677 Exhaust gasket; 292200094 Seal; 29300124 O-ring; 18291-MN5-650 Exhaust pipe gasket

These are the parts they did not have in stock that Can Am says they must replace at the 12,000 mile service.
Since they had never done one before they had no idea these were required.

We agreed that these will be replaced at the 15,000 service interval instead. Based on the way my wife drives that should happen within a month or so.

I'm not upset with the dealer too much as I wouldn't expect they would read all the fine print in the service manual about the 12,000 service until they actually had a Spyder in front of them to work on.

Which dealer do you guys use? PM me if you don't want to put it out there.

Sounds like you were saved from the unnecessary "valve adjustment"--that is what runs up the bill for 12,000 mile service.

The 12000 mile valve adjustment is definitely unnecessary and is a big part of the cost of the 12000 mile service but any dealer should know there are standard parts to be ordered for 12000 mile service and tell you that they need at least a weeks lead time to get them in.. my servicing dealer sure did

PM me as well. I live in the Chattanooga, TN area; but I'd still like to know what dealers are PREPARED to WORK on Spyders, when they roll in the door.

Piss Poor Planning produces Piss Poor Performance... and I'm not one who takes too well to either. especially for the prices in today's market.

11,999 Other Mikes!!!!!!

I'm astounded to learn there are 11,999 other Mikes using this forum! And I thought I was the only one!!! :D Or almost the only one.

Seriously, I have a dealer who is new to the Spyder also, having been a Cam Am dealer for only a few months. They clearly don't know the machine well yet and the advice on this thread is valuable. Thanks.

Mike
