Took my wife's 2010 RT in Wednesday for the 12,000 mile service. Dropped it off early and it was promised by 4 pm. At 6 pm the bike was still not put back together. At noon today (Thursday) service manager told me that it would be another week as parts had to be ordered.
Since we are leaving on a trip this Sunday and reservations have already been made I told him that was unsatisfactory. They reassembled everything and we picked the bike up this afternoon.
The manager confessed that they had never had a Spyder in with that many miles on it before and this was the first 12,000 mile service they had ever performed. As a result they didn't know it takes 8 hours plus to do this. I bought the dealer service package with the bike so I am glad I didn't have to pay the $943 bill and $807 of that was labor. In addition to oil, filter, air filter, etc. they also drain and refill coolant, brake fluid, replace plugs, adjust valves and a whole bunch of other stuff.
In case you plan to take your RT in for the 12,000 mile service make certain the dealer knows they have to have the following parts on hand:
707600650 Slip joint; 514053677 Exhaust gasket; 292200094 Seal; 29300124 O-ring; 18291-MN5-650 Exhaust pipe gasket
These are the parts they did not have in stock that Can Am says they must replace at the 12,000 mile service.
Since they had never done one before they had no idea these were required.
We agreed that these will be replaced at the 15,000 service interval instead. Based on the way my wife drives that should happen within a month or so.
I'm not upset with the dealer too much as I wouldn't expect they would read all the fine print in the service manual about the 12,000 service until they actually had a Spyder in front of them to work on.
