There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Dealer shenanigan's?

Hi Gang. This concerns a 2018/19 Spyder RT limited. I purchased mine used from a dealer and inquired about the hole in the seat where a backrest would be installed. Lo and behold, as if by magic, a plug(?) was found and installed. Only after I pointed out that water intrusion was almost guaranteed with out it. I then asked about the back rest itself only to be told that they would sell me one at over $350. I politely said no and came home. After lifting seat to take a look, there is a heavy duty bracket installed for a back rest. My question is, do all Spyder RT Limited come with brackets already installed or is my dealer trying to make an extra buck on unreported inventory.
I would appreciate an answer I can take back to the dealer (or plaster it all over the internet)
Thank you,
Allen B

It is an optional add on. There are aftermarket ones that some think are better the BRP offering.

The Backrests generally aren't sold without the brackets, and I don't believe that you can actually buy the brackets separately anyway.... :dontknow:

So it looks as tho someone (maybe the dealer? :p ) has a backrest that's pretty much useless without the bracket that's attached to your Spyder's seat?!?

:agree: my guess would be that the dealership removed the backrest and planned on selling it to you separately. The only other excuse would be if they got the bike on trade in and didn't receive the backrest. I had a similar item not included on a car that I purchased from a dealership used. I made that item a part of the deal upon purchase. They were to either get the oem item from the previous owner, or supply me a new one. I would go back to them and ask them to explain the existence of the backrest bracket, but no backrest.

Doubtful you will get a backrest included in your deal. Might be better off posting photos of the brackets to help identify the backrest manufacturer. If the dealers was truly playing with you, by keeping the backrest, they would have swapped the entire seat for one without brackets installed.

Does it even have a stock Can Am seat or Can Am upgrade seat. Possibly it is an aftermarket seat assembly.

Purely speculation without photos or more info.

:agree: no reason to believe dealer is deliberately screwing around with you based on what you have described.

When I went to the dealer to take delivery of the used RTL I had purchased, upon inspection I could not fine the Zumo GPS head. The bracket was there but no head unit. I asked where it was and was told they were "extra". Then I pulled out the spec sheet and the dealers advertisement for my bike which showed GPS included. The sales guy then slinked on over to his desk and pulled out MY GPS unit and put it on. There were very few words spoken between us after that..... Jim

Look at the seat. Is the plug removed where the backrest slides down. Once the rubber plug is removed it can’t be reinstalled I think. So if the plug is removed and slider bracket under the seat, and it was bought used, either the original owner took it off before trading it in or the dealer did. I do remove my backrest in the fall and early spring when riding 2up when my wife has here heavy jacket and pants. In summer I snap it back in and when riding solo I snap it in. Owner could have removed and tried to sell it. Hard to say.

Guessing a Ride Now dealership...That salesman should have been called out to his manager. He knew what he was doing and likely planned on selling it for a couple hundred. Karma will get his ass. Maybe a failed transmission on a used car he buys...

Surprisingly it was not Ride Now. I bought my Spyder in Tulsa, OK from a non-BRP dealer who acquired it via auction. I flew to Tulsa and rode the Spyder 1,200 miles home amid tornados (really) and extremely high winds. First time on a Spyder. An experience not to be forgotten. I think your take on what the sales guy had in mind are right on. My point to the OP is to maybe look at what was originally advertised, pictures of the bike, and to go back to investigate as much as possible. I believe the backrests are sold with the mounting brackets. The elusive backrest would be useless without the mounting bracket. But mounting brackets can be purchased separately. I did change out my backrest bracket for an adjustable one..... Jim

I can only speak for the 2021 RT Limited. It does not have the bracket for the driver backrest installed as stock. The backrest bracket comes with the backrest.

If it was a dealer demo and installed the back rest I would think they would give you a deal on the rest, or at least throw it into the deal. If it was a trade in, then the guy that traded did not throw it into the trade and your up the creek, and the dealer was being nice to find you a seat plug! The bracket you have under your seat was installed by the last to own the bike and that's a plus for you if you want a backrest, or just added weight!! Enjoy your new ride!!

1-The Plug is replaceable

2-The bracket is not included

3-The bracket can be bought without the backrest

4-The bracket is included with the backrest when bought from a dealer (used backrest may not have the bracket)

Seeing how the same backrest will work on spyders of several years and only the bracket is different, How about the former owner wanted his exspensive backrest on the new spyder and just had to pay for the bracket?
Who knows, maybe that is where the rubber plug came from that was then given to you.
Not everything has to be the dealer being bad, shady, or trying to take advantage of you. I know some of them are that way, I have delt with some of them, but all of them should not be lumped togather.
