Dead Spyder....what gives?

The kill switch is due to the design of some bikes (HDs and Triumphs) having their ignition key on the side of the triple tree, where you can't quickly reach it in case you need to shut off the engine in an emergency. It just carried over to all bikes over the years.

pps: We were out on a fall clean-up ride on the Kancamagus Highway in NH, finished helping the park rangers put in a stone foundation on a historic cabin. Went to leave, and Smurfette wouldn't start! Oh:cus:! I called a road captain for help, and right then I earned my new nickname "Brain Cramp" ! Silly kill switch!!!pps:pps:

It didn't just "carry over", it is mandated by Federal law.
