• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

If you don't mind me asking, from another thread it appears that you've sold your RT; is that correct? I may have missed a thread when you may have mentioned problems you were having. I was thinking of getting a new RS; but, if another die hard spyder rider decided to call it quits, I'm going to have to rethink that. If you want to respond with a PM, please do.

Thanks

I will reply right here.
# 1 After spending 25K for a vehicle, I refuse to have to keep it on a battery tender all of the time. To me, that is a screw-up by BRP that they do not want to address. I travel and will not leave a battery on a charger in my garage while out of town, nor should I or any of us have to. My 2001 Busa, with a 5 yr old battery, fires up after sitting for a month. Same with the truck, generator, etc.
# 2 Maintenance costs on the spyders are rediculous. 160 + for oil changes, 1400 for the 12K service. Maint. costs on the Goldwing are way less, needed less frequently and in the long run will save me a ton of money. Rumor that BRP was going to move the 12K valve check has not materialized. Watch your warranty if you did not get it done.
# 3 BRP lack-luster customer support: What is causing main shaft failures, bearings going out prematurely, limp mode issues, my past DPS issues ( 3 changes on one spyder), oil in airboxes this should have been addressed by BRP from the beginning. There is no real reason for this), fuel smell so strong that I leave my garage open for hours after returning from a ride.
# 4 Trailer issues: clearguard peeling off and bubbled from day 1, carpet hanging off on the insides, key lock coming out when opening the back.

I was very patient for quite a while, but am now giving this up for better things. Mine is ready for trade-in with my local dealer and I am getting a great deal on a 2012 level 2 goldwing with navi package and all accessories.

Dave this surprises me a great deal but I will admit, in your threat you are 100 percent correct.. Everything you mentioned is true.. I will admit BRP has a long way to go with there problems, and yes they do have problems.. Its not been on the market for long and time will tell.. I will tell you this though, you CAN"T go wrong with your purchase of a Goldwing, or for that matter a Honda product (probably get some slack here but thats fine).. Not sure you saw my other bike a couple years back but I have a 1998 Honda AERO that refuses to have any mechanical problems as all.. If I had to I would jump on that baby and head from coast to coast and not worry about any mechanical failure at all.. Again, this surprises me about you and your spYder but you know what, I UNDERSTAND completely.. I plan on calling you later on to BS a bit..

X-Joe

Sorry to hear Dave. We haven't had any of those issues with BumbleBee's RT, and maintenance costs have been quite reasonable (must be a dealer thing).

But (I dare say) you can't go wrong with the Goldwing (I agree with Joe for once/maybe twice). Love my Honda.

Just be sure to continue to hang out with us. I must say, that of all the groups I have been exposed to, SpyderLovers are the best. :doorag:

Wow, Dave stay in touch. I must point out one of my Honda's failed to start this morning so I jumped on the other one, the one that failed to start had not been rode in over a week and has 75000 miles on it, however when I got home I realized I had somehow bumped the kill switch that I never use. Then it fired right up. I love my Honda's and I love my Spyder and if I find something bigger and badder I will love it as well, however I don't think I could give any of the present toys up.

I could not believe what I read, but I do understand, so sorry to hear of all the troubles you had. I have been very lucky, first the RS and now the RT! "We never gotten around of taking that picture :("

Do stay in touch, and come to the Spyder Fest anyways, all bikes are welcome

You are still a spyderlover and a Hulligan :)

Dave sorry to see you trade yours in but with all the issues you have had I guess I understand. I've been pretty lucky especially with the battery I didn't hook it up to a tender last winter and it started right up after 4 months of sitting in an unheated garage. I had the trailer lock issues twice but now that they replaced the latches it seems to be working properly.

I am sorry to hear but am not too far behind you. BRP had to know that their machine was not ready for prime time - but hood winked us anyway! I am also angry with myself for not doing more homework before forking over that kind of big money. I have several old bikes and ALL of them run better and when I ride them I don't fear making it home.:(

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I've got a 2008 SM5 RS, never put it on any battery tender and still on the stock battery. Starts every time (except now that I put cheap HID's in but that is my fault and another story).

Never has left me stranded or even close to it with nearly 25K on it.

Maintenance on my Spyder has been extremely reasonable but then I don't cart it off to the dealer for everything either. For those that do I suppose it could be expensive.

Have had Hondas, Kawasaki's, Yamaha's, Suzuki's and a BSA for street bikes. Some of those left me stranded but I dealt with it The Internal transmission shift fork and linkage fell appart on my Honda 750 about a mile north of the San Fransisco bridge on Sunday morning. I was able to rebuild it and get all the way home with the tools I had.

Sorry to see you go Dave but everyone has to do what they think best. Be sure to bring you new ride around to a Spyder event sometime.

Could be a good thing though, then I could quit the soap series and no one would notice! :ohyea:[/QUOTE]

Hey!! I'd notice! :yikes:

I agree with you , BRP wants the customer to pay for their R&D research, I will be putting mine up for sale soon, PE 301, :lecturef_smilie::lecturef_smilie:

:agree: Ron, I would notice also because I am not going anywhere!!!

Dave, sorry to hear about all the problems :(......as Bumblebee said, you can still come to Spyderfest on whatever your are ryding at the time!:2thumbs:

Dave
Hate to hear that, but if you have had a ton of problems it is understandable. I'd probably do the same in your shoes. However, I've only had mine on the charger once and that was my fault for too much testing during my LEDs install, I ran the battery down. After charging all has been good and not back on the charger again. I also haven't had any of the other issues like gas smell, etc. So I am still happy with the RT.

When I was shopping, I SERIOUSLY looked at the Goldwing, but it would have to be a trike for me due to a leg injury and some pretty severe muscle atrophy in my right leg. I would have probably bought a used Goldwing already triked out though, because as I understand it the trike conversion would void the Honda warranty?

I even recently joined Lamonts Goldwing site, so I could lurk around to see what (if any) issues the GW trike owners have. I read all of George Lewis' posts here and he has definitely been happy with both his wing and his RT.

Anyways, I see that you are going with the two wheeler GW, and it is a proven machine and good looking too! What color are you getting? Post some pics when you have them.

Really hope you will continue here on SpyderLovers anyway and also come to SpyderFest. All motorcycles are welcomed to the party! :doorag::doorag::doorag:

Sorry to see you go Dave but you picked a great bike to go to. Good luck on your new adventure. :doorag:

Steve, I have not had a lot of issues with my RT. Its just when a few small ones keep adding up, then I tend to try other things. My rt runs awesome and has not left me stranded anywhere, except in my garage..LOL
