Dave & Teds Most Excellent Adventures 2013

Hope everyone had a Happy Easter

Well.................. To start things off, my face hurts :2thumbs: & thats the good kinda hurt, you know, from that grin you get on your face that you can't seem to wipe away, like when you really 'Get on It' ryding thru the twisties :2thumbs: Yeah, that one :2thumbs:

I didn't hear anything back from the shop, so I gave in and called again on Friday to inquire and low & behold, it had been done and waiting :banghead: All routine maintenance & BUDS updates were complete, new thermostat & radiator installed, which took care of the coolant leaks & new valve-cover head gaskets & Heli-Coil & drain plug installed appears to have corrected all of the leaking oil issues :clap:

Brought Teds Red Sled home on Friday evening and the weather cooperated enough over the weekend to allow Teddy & I to get 3 really nice rydes in, putting on about 180 miles of smiles in all :2thumbs: and yes, we're still RedNeck'n it :doorag: ryding it mostly stripped to the bones :opps: but still enjoying every minute:clap:
:bowdown:God, how we needed that

Going forward, I'm in for an uphill battle, as I know I'm going to have issues, as my finger is really getting in the way. Its one of those things, since they can't find anything, I don't think I can really do anymore harm to it, as every check & scan thus far done shows all is normal, so I'm just trying to do my best, push thru the pain at the time, and deal with it the best I can. I know I should be concentrating on putting things back togother, but I'm not there yet, not to that point in the rebuild. More on this later.

As for the letter/drama that I mentioned, perhaps I made a mistake in posting that, as it really is a personal and confidential matter & totally unrelated to anything Spyder or to do with Teddy's Adventures and not appropriate for this forum. I understand many of you that care and follow along daily may have your interest piqued & not being 'In the Know' would eat at you like an itch you just can't scratch. For those of you that must know, if you send me a PM with DRAMA in the title, I will send out one PM to all those that requested the info all at one time, to make it easier. Sorry folks, but at the present time, that's the best I can offer, as this drama is ongoing.

Dave, if your face is still stuck in a grin, that's all that matters. Glad to hear that you and Teddy got back on the sled!

More about this rebuild/mod insanity

I'm hoping someone out there can relate, tho I have no doubt, this is an illness. But do you have something in your life that is almost what you would consider perfect, tho if one thing could be different, it would, in your minds eye, be complete?

Well, there are a list of mods still to go on Teds Red Sled, but there's one that outweighs all the rest by far. Anyone care to venture a guess what that is for me :gaah:

Would it be Ted's throne! I know that having the little guy comfortable is a priority for you!:dontknow:

Hecky naw, the Tedster has it WAY better than I do myself (He's got heated & cooled seat, I dont:roflblack:) & even tho your correct, he's ALWAYS a priority, this is totally selfish of me & its my own thing :opps:

Just a note to say that this is one of the most interesting threads and one that I always read. Sometimes I want to respond to something but don't quite know how.
Roger, never feel like you cant respond, I greatly appreciate your input & often sage advice:bowdown: but I understand what you mean, sometimes the words just aren't there :gaah:

Hey! Private is private. Enough said! You've had a rough time of late and the odd indiscretion is
entirely understandable so forget I asked, Dave.

Very happy you got out for some Spyder time with your boss. It's even good that the Red Sled is half naked
right now as you can see if all the work has been successful and when you get around to putting the covers
back on at least you'll be reasonably certain that everything in there is working well!

I haven't been on SL for a little while, as Bruiser keeps me up to date on most of it. Suffice it to say, I'm so happy for you that you have been reunited with the Tedster's Red Sled, and you got some seat time yesterday. You are always very open, but there are some issues that are too personal and no need to say anything here. We all have our own lives, problems to deal with, and not everyone needs to know. Take care of yourself, give Ted a hug and pat from me, and God bless!

A woman?

Good guesses, but they all missed the mark

Since day one, way back in May of 2010 with the delivery of our Brand New to Market Timeless Black RT-S Spyder Roadster, close to a $30,000 beautiful looking machine:thumbup:

But I couldn't (& still can't) stand how BRP left the grey metal castings the way they are. To most, I'm sure you don't mind them or maybe even, you don't even notice them, tho after reading this, that just might change :opps: sorry if so :opps:
attachment.php

I mean, look at the lines of the machine and how all the tupperware seems to effortlessly flow together, only to be broken up but those UGLY grey metal castings.
attachment.php

Even BRP saw the flaw in this aesthetic logic, and now, for the new 2013 models, they come with the blacked out treatment or chrome, no more grey metal castings:thumbup:

Somehow, they never cease to amaze me, getting it 99% right, but leaving one of the most visible parts, that ugly grey metal casting  right out in front!!! :hun: WHAT ARE YOU THINKING BRP???

I'm not out to change the world or BRP for that matter & please, don't think I'm bashing them either, I'm not at all. For a company, to go from where it started with the Spyder back in 2008 with the original GS, to add the RT model in 2 short years & then add the ST model in another 3 years, the Company has come a long way & I think most would agree, they have improved the models with each passing year, Kudos BRP

As stated before, this is my own personal choice here, some I bet, could care less:dontknow: But for me, its been one of those itches that has been under my skin since day one & I am out to change that for Teds Red Sled ;)

Standing on the shoulders of GIANTS- Thanks to those that have gone before us

With wanting to finally scratch this itch & put it to rest, most that have gone before us, have resulted to taking their Ugly Grey Castings to a Powder Coater and have had them done the way they so personally desired, while others gave in to the Powers of BRP & ponied up large sums for the BRP 'Safety Chrome' versions of these very same castings:shocked:

Ahhhhhhh, in my writing this, the light came on:yikes: Sometimes, I'm slow, very slow in fact, such as this case. It just hit me like a ton of bricks:banghead: Why would BRP do this? Well, duh, its ALL ABOUT MONEY!!! :cus: :chill:

Oh, you don't like those ugly grey castings? Well here, we have the solution. How bout a nice 'Safety Chrome' version for just a few hundred/thousand dollars more? :lecturef_smilie: Ahhhh yes, the mighty dollar wins out again.

Anyways, being financially challenged, BRP "Safety Chrome" & also Powder Coating are not viable options for Teddy & I. So, I decided to take a page out of ByteMi's Mod book, and go the route of giving Teds Red Sled the BLACKED OUT TREATMENT, alah Bed-Lining the parts for $7 a can.

Go ahead, laugh, I'll laugh right along with you :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack: She did her entire Spyder including the tupperware panels even, and it came out looking great :2thumbs::bowdown: Gave her the "Stealth" phantom look that she wanted at a mere fraction of the cost that BRP wants for the Phantom Kit. Sure it took her some time and patience, but the results speak for themselves, KUDOS Girl :firstplace::bowdown: These are pics of what she did, tho I can't seem to find one of the finished product, I'm sure it came out great :firstplace::2thumbs:

We haven't gotten to the castings yet, but here's a sneak peak at what is done so far

The above is a close-up of the completed lower deflectors. They came out very well, nice and smooth with a slight texture to them. Liking this allot :2thumbs:

Mind you now, I have to give credit where credit is due, and that goes to ByteMi for posting her adventure into all this using Bed-Lining to Customize your Spyder stuff  and allowing all of us to follow along with her and providing us with a step by step how to :firstplace::bowdown:http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...Stage-One-and-Two-Complete&highlight=bedliner

So far, we've done most of the black plastic side panels, lower deflectors and the fender splash guards with the reflectors on them. So far, VERY HAPPY with the results :thumbup: Actually comming out better than I thought it would going into this little adventure. Next is taking off the rear black plastic panel under the rear trunk and doing that bad boy ;) Then, we're off on the actual adventure of scratch'n this itch for good  & ridding ourselves of the cheap look'n grey metal castings:yes::clap::yes:

The above link takes you to our Bed-Lining Teds Red Sled SpyderLovers Photo Album so you can view the pics at full resolution for yourselves, if you'd like. :opps:Please be advised, disreguard the mess in the background :opps: This is a spare room used to store 'stuff' and do mods in the winter time that we can't do in the detached garage and with me being somewhat challenged in my present physical capacity, its the last thing I'm worried about

Awesome!

I can't wait to see the finished product. So far, it looks awesome. I too, hate that ugly gray metal. To me, it not only looks ugly, but also cheap. It's not too bad on the RS's, but on the RT's I cringe every time I see it. Good luck and keep up the good work.

I have to ask, why are you doing the pieces that are already black? Are they stained or discolored? Inquiring minds want to know :dontknow:
