Dave & Teds Most Excellent Adventures 2013

Your not the only one to dislike the color of the castings. I to am going to do something about it.:yes:the economical way.:2thumbs:

Dave,
I can't begin to tell you how much I enjoy reading your posts. Your creativity and inventiveness are an inspiration to those of us who are sometimes too timid and overly cautious to tackle modifications. It took me three weeks after I received my Bajaron sway bar to work up the nerve to install it, but I received inspiration from your posts and did it.

Great minds think alike. I too just installed Ron's swaybar. And as you can see, I like the racing stripes as well.

Answers & Monkey Wrenches, someones always throwing them out there, aren't they

I have to ask, why are you doing the pieces that are already black? Are they stained or discolored? Inquiring minds want to know :dontknow:

Couple of reasons for doing the black plastic. Some are BRP plastics (like the lower deflectors & Frunk access panels) while others are made from a different material from SpyderPops, like the Cat Shields & Lower Air Dam.

First, I wanted to test some pieces to make sure it would adhere well and with a final result that I would be happy with. They always recommend testing in an inconspicuous spot, so that's why I chose these panels, as they are mostly hidden and out of sight.

Second, Teddy & I usually ryde year round and through all the elements, so I figured it couldn't hurt to give as many parts as possible an added layer of protection, and that's exactly what the Bed-Liner product is made for, a protective coating.

One word of note here, as I took an extra step not done by ByteMi in her application method. I knew going in, that I wasn't going to be doing any of the actual painted body panels of Teds Red Sled like she was doing on her RS. Our intention is for added protection from the elements & ridding ourselves of the dreaded grey of the metal castings. She used an Adhesive Promotor cause she was applying the product over shiny painted body panels while we're just applying it to the black plastics and metal castings. So, in our aproach, I deviated from hers by NOT using an Adhesive Promotor and instead, choosing to actually PRIMER the parts to be coated in the Bed-Liner product. Thats why in some of the pictures you notice some pieces in a drab gray color, denoting that piece had just been primed.

Now, here's another deviation. While browsing through SpyderLovers last night, I came upon the Thread about using Plasti-Dip to black out a Spyder & have to admit, I am intrigued, as this is a totally reversable application. http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...dipped-wheels-and-handlebars&highlight=plasti
Meaning if you don't like or get tired of the result, you just peel it off & your right back to your original color with no harm done to the substrate. This can't be said for the Bed-Liner application, as it is a permanant solution.

So with this new inspiration, I stopped by our local Ace Hardware store and picked up a couple of Spray cans in black, and also one quart in red (Red is available in spray, but they didn't stock it) & now I'm thinking very hard that I'll first do the castings in the black plasti-dip with adding red accents to it and see how well I like that result. If I like it well enough, I'll leave it & see how well it holds up. If I don't like it, I can just peel it off and continue on the previous path with Bed-Lining the castings & handle bar.

If the Plasti-Dip works for us as well as the other forum member, I'll most probably follow his lead and also do the rims of Teds Red Sled in Red Plasti-Dip as well, adding even more contrast with the black tires to outline them. There's a local pub owner that has a Black & Red Crossfire with his rims done in RED, & everytime I see it, there the first things that get my attention & they look really cool. While I'm sure his are most probably Powder Coated, can't hurt to see how Teds Red Sled would look rolling on Red Rims as well.

If I make it thru this week ..............................

With what little sanity I still have left, I will be amazed  I have so many things going on right now, all juggling up in the air in unison & the funny thing is, I never did learn how to juggle

But the countdown is on & we all know, TIME WAITS FOR NO MAN!

Its only a short 20 days til we saddle up Teds Red Sled and leave for SpyderFest, so Teds Sled HAS to be DONE & Completed, preferably before then. That way, we can test out all the new mods and additions before hand, hopefully being able to correct anything that needs attention so we don't run into untimely issues whilst on the road.

Deep breath, one thing at a time, one step in front of the other. We Can Do This

Thank GOD this bit of Drama is over***WARNING***ADULT CONTENT

OK y'all, I'm breaking my own rule about posting here, but I think it'll help you all understand, maybe just a little better of why all the drama of late.

That envelope that was placed on my entry gate, with no postage & marked Personal & Confidential, well inside was a letter from our local county health department stating that a serious & urgent matter needed my immediate attention & that I needed to call a local number & ask for ****** & he would explain it to me.

Well, I called & spoke with ******* & he made me aware that apperently, one of my Ex's had contracted both HIV & Syphilis & they named me as a past partner :yikes: If you let that sink in for a bit, I think you will be able to understand why this past week has been so "Heavy" for me to deal with. Questioning anything & everything & everyone in my life, past and present. They wouldn't tell me anything about who this person was, when this happend, where, nothing at all, just that I had been potentially exposed & that it was in my best interest to get checked.

I'm not sure what could produce as much anxiety in a person than that.

Well, my dr's office finally called me back late last night cause they knew I was on pins & needles with worry about this, and they confirmed for me, that ALL of my tests came back as NEGATIVE!!!:pray::bowdown:

We ALL take so much for granted in our daily lives, and I've slowly been learning..........

Sometimes NEGATIVE is a beautiful word. We just went through a cancer scare with my beautiful daughter so I know how good that negative report is to receive. I'm very happy for you Dave and am looking forward to meeting you and Teddy at Spyderfest.

Dave & Teddy

 Glad it all turned out good for you. Now, all you can do is go UP from here. Time is running out, get Teddy's Red Sled fixed up, put back together and do some major riding and cleansing of the brain. We will see you at Spyderfest!!!

Too much drama in such a short period of time. Had my heart in my throat cause of Ted

Here's how it went down.

Got up and got ready for work and I headed downstairs to put my shoes & coat on & to take Teddy out to do his 'business' before I leave for the day.

Teddy was at the top of the stairs and usually just waits there and watches for me to grab my coat & the light, and that's usually his clue to come down the stairs so we can head out.

I do as usual, tie my shoes, grab my coat & the light & put my hand on the door knob, but Teddy is just standing there at the top of the stairs still, just looking at me.

I give a "Click click, lets go buddy, c'mon I've gotta get to work, lets go.'

He circles at the top of the stairs and once again, just looks at me. Usually, he's rare'n to go out, no need for prodding, but for some reason, not this morning.

Fearing I was going to be running late for work, I somewhat :opps: scolded him :opps: and in a rather stearn voice said, "If you wanna go out, you'd better get your butt down here right now!"

OH MY GOD!!! The next thing I see is him trying to come down the first step at the top, his foot slips and he goes tumbling head over heal over and over down all 23 wooden steps. I was right there at the bottom, watching every second & it seemed as if it were in agonizing slow motion, going from upright to upside down, to his side, trying to get his footing again, back to slipping, to upside down again, bouncing from one side, off the books to the other side, knocking down three piles of Leather Bound books that I have lining the steps on both sides from top to bottom. My heart sank as I watched, cause there wasn't a damned thing I could do. UGH!!! I hate that helpless feeling.

He finally bounced off the last step to the hard tile of the floor, no whimper no whine, but you could see the fear in his teary eyes. He got up and quickly ran to the carpeted living room as I watched with dread, fearing the worse that he could've possibly reinjured his knee that he had to have surgery on last year. But as I watched him scamper to the living room, there was no sign of a limp & no audible wincing from pain.

I quickly went over and picked him up and hugged him, visible tears in his eyes and I'm not gonna lie, mine too. As I was hugging him, I was poking and prodding all of his little body parts, making sure I didn't feel anything broken and ensuring he was truly ok, and was happy that he seemed fine, just shaken up.

I asked if he wanted to go out, and he wagged his tail and ran to the door. We went out & he ran like normal, no signs of what had just happend were apparent. Back inside, I thought he'd surely be scared to go back up those very same stairs, and the first two steps were a little pensive, but then he zoomed up the rest just like any other day.

For a better visual understanding, if you look to the right Teddy in this pic, you'll see the open wooden steps lined with the "100 Greatest Books Ever Written" behind him. There's a total of 23 steps that he came tumbling down this morning :opps:

Whew:bowdown: I have much to be thankful for:bowdown: but right now, I could really use an emotional break

Dave and Teddy - we just for our dog Cooper a Kuryakyn pet palace to ride in :) any tips of how to train and acclimate him to the bike ? Since you guys are the experts ! Thanks for any suggestions :)

You have had a rough couple months and we truly hope that you start to feel better, get to really enjoy riding with Teddy, and have lots of great stories to tell us :) thanks for sharing yours and Teddy's life !

Dave

I think it was a sign or Message from Teddy - I know you have had a lot to deal with and thanks for sharing all your problems and solutions - Teddies fall is just to ensure like with the rebuild you have only a few steps to go
but you still need to take in one step at a time - Take that time recheck as you go

Glad to hear Teddy is OK and I am sure you will be keeping a close eye on him for any signs he may have some injury/Pain that you missed

You and him must be the most resilient pair we have ever heard of

We all need to see you out and about on the Red Tedster and can't wait to read more of your adventures in the coming weeks and months ahead although we can understand you will want to ride more and write less to make up for the lost time the Spyder has been off the road

Best wishes

I wouldn't claim to be an expert, just experienced ;) And these are just MY OPINIONS from that aquired experience.

My head isn't very clear right now, so I will revisit your question once I get home from work today and have 'chilled out' a bit, should be much easier then to properly communicate the needed info. But to start, what kind of dog, color, size & age right now?

Looking at their site for the Pet Palace, the one pic where they show the dog standing by it, I personally wouldn't recommend that size of a dog for the size of their Pet Palace. Not knowing measurements of the dog, but I'd say it would work for short trips like around town, but not for anything long distance. For long distance trips, you'd need something where the dog can comfortably lay down and stretch out, not just sit up for the entire ryde.

If I remember correctly, you guys have a modded RS, are you planning on ryding solo with the Pet Palace or 2 up + the Pet Palace?

Did you get the grey or the black?
My personal opinion only here, but I think the black looks better, but the grey would potentially be better suited for pet travel, as black in direct sunlight retains alot of heat, just something to keep in mind.

Answer these questions and I'll get back to you later on today. But to start, I'd keep the Pet Palace in the house and start training that way. You want your pet to get acclimated to it as HIS/HER Home/Safe Haven. Put a worn T-shirt (with your scent) inside, and leave all its openings wide open so your dog will want to use it all the time, just like you would for crate training. Alot of ppl have the wrong idea that using a crate is like punishment for a dog, but when used properly, its exactly the opposite. It becomes their own personal space and when used correctly, they'd rather be no other place. That's where you want to get with your pet, introduce it ONLY in a positive manner, even use treats at first whenever your pet will go in the Pet Palace. Tho, size matters, and depending on the size of your dog, like if they can't comfortably lay down inside it, then this approach likely won't work & we'll have to go another route.

Sorry, I'm very scatter-brained right now, I'll continue this later tonight, but we'll get you there. If you can post a pic of your dog by or maybe even IN the Pet Palace it would greatly help me to advise you better.

Of course I don't know your ex you mentioned this morning. However, I feel sorry for her if she contracted those 2 horrors due to no fault of her own.

No doubt & agreed

Of course I don't know your ex you mentioned this morning. However, I feel sorry for her if she contracted those 2 horrors due to no fault of her own.

Often times, we get caught up in the drama & implications of our own lives that we don't even think about that of others. The timing of this I thought a bit odd, as it coincided with the public release about the doctor in OK that used improperly sterilized impliments & unknowingly infected potential countless patients of his with HIV, among other diseases.

The very thought had never crossed my mind, before hearing this story, that I could go to my Dentist (or other doctor for that matter) for a routine cleaning or something & come away with a potentially life threatening disease:yikes: I'm not saying this is what happend in my Ex's case at all, just stating the fact, that this never crossed my mind.

Ex's are Ex's for a reason, and I learned that the hard way. This probably sounds horrible of me, but I honestly don't know who it may be, but I do sincerely wish them the best of luck in dealing with their challenge. I know personally, just from this past week of all the what if's that one goes through faced with this type of information, it definitely can make ones life more of an uphill challenge, that's for sure.

Starting to think, maybe 4:20am is just too early for Teddy

20130405_042252.jpg
After I got home from work yesterday, Teddy had no problem with going down the stairs once I let him out of the upstairs bedroom. Excited to see me & rare'n to go, he did his normal 3 legged shuffle all the way down, without issue.

This mornig however, he repeated his reluctance same as yesterday. He just stood at the top of the stairs watching me. When he saw me grab my coat and light, he made a circle and then disappeared back into bed.

I learned my lesson yesterday, so this time, I said nothing. I went back up & sure enough, there he was, laying right in my spot in the bed........... shaking.

He was visibly scared and stressed, so I just picked him up, cuddled & hugged the lil guy and carried him down. As soon as we made the foyer, he was back to his spirited self, jumping up and ringing his bell on the entry door to let me know he needed to go out.

Funny, how when I came home from work, he went down them by himself without bat'n an eye, but in the wee hours of the morning, just aint gonna happen.

Hey, I know when I reached a point in life, I learned that I have to be a bit more careful first thing in the morning than I used to. After standing up right after awaking & passing out and falling a couple of times, I now sit on the edge of the bed for a minute to take a self assessment before standing. Sounds like Teddy has figured this out. You understand it now & may even learn it like me in years to come.

Good job with taking care of Teddy!

Hi Dave,

Cooper is an 18 pound beagle/ pug mix. He is about 5 years old. We will be riding with him solo on the modded RSS ( hopefully an RT soon). We chose the pet palace in black to start. If he takes to riding we will have something custom built for him. Something a little wider so he can fully comfortably lay down.

We are focusing on short trip like to our local ice cream place, doggie daycare, training classes, or just short rides. Under 30 -45 minutes.

Cooper is crate trained and loves his crate. We have started teaching him to jump into the pet palace and rewarding him for sitting in it and staying. We then release him to let him know its ok to get out. Don't want him just jumping out of it on his own we want him to know he needs to wait for us to either lift him off or release him. We want him to see it as a good place. So far him seems to be good sitting in it, staying, and letting his head stick out the top. We also are working with doggles on walks - making him wear them so he gets used to.

Any suggestions would be appreciated :)
