• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Dash flashing Spyder

I have about 4500 miles on my 14 RT SE6 with no problems till today. Not really sure if this is a problem. I searched the forums and looked in the book but nothing showed. Today after filling up and riding about 5 miles, on the dash the word Spyder started flashing. It would flash a few times then stop and then flash again. All I could think of was to reset the gas cap and tighten again. The flashing went away. Is this what can show if maybe the cap is not set correctly? Went on with the ride of about 150 miles with no more light flashing. Even refilled later with no recurrence. Has anybody else had this?

Does it say Can-Am, not Spyder, like when you first turn on the key? Sometimes the computer will have a blip and the start screen will come on when the motor is running.

I have never seen the word "Spyder" on the screen.

Yeah it shows Spyder and it is flashing but it stopped when I tightened the gas cap. I guess that was what it was for

Could you describe where on the multifunction display you saw the flashing word Spyder.

It was flashing in #4 slot. Orange color like when the trunk is open. I sent a msg to a spyder tech but haven't heard back. I guess maybe a way to duplicate this would be to leave the gas cap loose and see if it repeats. Might try that tomorrow.

I must ask, while the screen was indicating spyder, did you then shut the machine off since I assume it was running, then tighten the fuel cap?

Or assuming the machine was running, did you leave it running, then tighten the fuel cap to witness the flashing stop.

If the machine was never fired up, there would be no vacuum applied to the evap system so the machine would not know.

I have looked through the possible fault messages and none say Spyder. But I am researching in the 2013 Service Manual maybe something new for 2014. :dontknow:
As to your theory about the loose gas cap. On 2013 and earlier you could drive around without a gas cap on and no faults would be reported. Not a good idea but could be done. I looked at the 2014 parts catalog and don't see anything new that can detect a loose gas cap. So I am thinking the loose gas cap was just a coincidence.

If you have the trunk or either saddlebag unlatched, the dash will flash orange and give you a picture of the :spyder2:. It also shows the message "rear cargo open."

I am guessing this is your problem.

The cargo trunk and the saddlebags on the RT are so air tight that sometimes it takes more than one attempt to get them to latch properly. I always test "pull" the trunk lid and saddlebags when I open/close them.

I hope this solves your problem.

 You knew where my question was heading

In post #1 the OP says and I quote "Today after filling up and riding about 5 miles, on the dash the word Spyder started flashing."

To me it seems clear it's the word Spyder not the icon Spyder.

Nuthin wrong with making sure. Lets see what the OP says  As you said that happening is something no one ever heard of never seen Spyder anywhere on my screen. Can Am yes.
