• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

D.E.S.S. experiment

Well, today I started the Spyder three times. Two of the three were good. One included a D.E.S.S. code. Oh well, it was good for about 29 of 30 starts. When I got the code, cycling the ignition brought it back to life, it started and I went on my way. :gaah:

Suggestion -- DESS Key Error -- BRP Care Reponse Requested

The following is not my idea -- it was suggested in one of the other threads regarding DESS key errors. To the best of my knowledge, no response was requested / received from BRP Care (Steve). I did try contacting BRP through the web feedback, but (and his is really sad), their "customer support" reps refused to pass the suggestion on to technical for a response. They just referred me to my dealer ... GRRR. Anyway, while I am not affected by this error, I feel for those that are. Soooooo ....

Steve aka BRP Care -- please pass the following along for response from the technical folks.

Suggestion: Implement a PIN code, possibly two (factory assigned and user assigned) with the factory assigned being unique to each machine. Note that at least Indian and HD do this, so it is not new in the industry. I envision the following:
  • Key inserted, DESS key error.
  • Spyder the prompts for the PIN code.
  • User enters the PIN code via the turn signal button (so many pushes left, so many pushes right, push in for zero, etc.)
  • Error is then cleared and the Spyder starts.

Benefits -- Spyder remains secure and this could, possibly, be implemented with an ECM update in the field.

Again .... BRP Care, please research and respond.

Thank You .... Ann

Thanks, Ann. This could improve the situation, but what I fear is that the PIN code wouldn't be recognized either. Why, oh WHY won't BRP simply offer us the CHOICE of buying a Spyder with or WITHOUT the danged DESS? Why can't I just have the OPTION of owning a Spyder that starts with an old fashioned ignition and simple key?

I tell ya, I'm SOOOO glad I bought a Polaris ATV last year, and not a Can Am, now that I know (thanks to someone in here) that Can Am also puts the DESS in their ATVs, and they're also having problems. Must be oodles of fun to be stranded deep in the woods or mountains or other place where no truck or trailer can get to you, just because of a stupid DESS.

Ann,
BRP won't go for your idea because:
1. You're not a Canadian, and
2. BRP didn't think of it.
So far I don't have a dog in this fight. The day my wife and I are stranded, it'll be grounds for divorce.

When are you going to realize that BRP doesn't care about the DESS problem or any other problem, they obviously have a page from Bill Clinton's playbook, Lie, Deny, Lie, Deny.

The number of problems is within their pain limits, and eventually, you will trade in the POS and buy another hoping that it will be trouble free.

Pathetic attitude, as it will cost them down the road, but no one/CEOs thinks/cares about tomorrow. Lie, Deny, Lie, Deny

Better make sure you are not infringing on Harley Davidson patents! :)

The beauty of a PIN code is that it bypasses the fob (for HD and Indian) and would bypass he key recognition (like a fob) on the CanAm. Our dealer mentioned the DESS key error on the ATVs as he has had a few, but none on the Spyder.

All the best ..... Ann

Suggestion -- BRPCare Response Requested

Just giving this a bump to move it back up the list for BRPCare (aka Steve). Again, thank you for your prompt attention and response .... Ann

I talked to the service manager at my dealer last night and he is going to order the latest module to replace the the updated one installed earlier. I have had seven failures since May 5th. All were cleared using the ignition cycling process so never left stranded. We will see how it goes with the new unit.

New unit was installed 10 days ago. So far, all is well. And, I don't remember if it was the 4916 or something different. I believe though that is was when 4916. It was fresh from the factory since mid June.

Agree 100% that BRP does not care. They have a good front but when you need them in your corner they run with there tail between there legs.
Very poor company. I work for UPS and they are the same way. They care less about there customer's. Big corporate scum at its best.

:shocked::hun:
BRP has been working hard to figure out what happened, and how to fix it...
What more, would you like them to do? :dontknow:
Do they have it completely sort-out yet? I don't know. The nagging question bothers me a little bit, but the Public Relations crap-storm that they've taken over this is way out of proportion to what they may have earned. (IMHO)

If you gave some folks a mail-sack full of hundred-dollar bills: they'd just gripe about how heavy it was... :banghead:
