Custom Dynamics Spyder RT Integrated HMT installation

I know there are a lot of you out there that have this light installed. I just bought one and my buddy and I spent couple hours installing it. They don't tell you, you have to have hands the size of Tinker Bell to work with that get to that harness on the right side. Anyway, followed directions, got everything in place and during testing, the left turn signal on the HMT unit flashed when the right signal was on. Had to switch the Brown wire to the Purple and the Purple wire to the Brown. That fixed the right HMT signal....but the left one doesn't work at all ?? Anyone else have an issue with the left signal not working, or problems with the color coding?

Instructions are Incorrect for the Integrated HMT

Chico .... having just done this install just a few weeks ago, I know exactly what is wrong. Will provide brief description now and then look up the detailed thread about my install. The CanAm uses a "CanBus" system that sends the turn signal pulses to each side of the bike individually -- so, when you ask for a right turn signal, only that pulse is sent to the RIGHT side of the bike; ask for a left and only that pulse is sent to the LEFT side of the bike. Thus, when you put the turn signal to the left ... it is not seen by the right hand connector where you have plugged the HMT harness. I spent many minutes on the phone with Custom Dynamics and also had to look up the "pin-out" for the right / left rear tail light connectors. Briefly, here is how I had to hook mine up:

1. Drop the lower back fascia and remove the tale lights; left and right are as you are sitting on the bike, facing foward.
2. The "dual converter" for the brake / running light, is wired in per CD's instructions
3. The connector harness is plugged into the right side tail light, there are three wires coming from my harness
4. The harness wires are plugged to the HMT for brake / running, orange to orange, black to black, and red to red
5. This leaves two wires unconnected from the HMT -- a brown and a purple; I used posi-taps to connect as follows:

• The brown wire from the HMT is "tapped" to pin number 4 on the right tale light (it is brown / yellow) on the bike connector
• The purple wire from the HMT is "tapped" to pin number 4 on the left tale light (it is grey / pink) on the bike connector; in order to plug this wire I had to route it down the left side of the trunk (it is not long enough if routed down the right side).

Great news!!! I thought it was something like this and I was thinking I'd have to run a longer wire from the left side over to the right side. Your instructions should straight forward and I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks again.....Chico

This helped tremendously...Got my lights hooked up and working...thanks for your help. I did get a response from CD and the acknowledged the issue and suggested the same thing as you did. I suggested they update their installations instructions and include longer wire. Thanks again!!!

I would like to say thanks for the help on this & would like to add i removed 3 bolt on the inside on the rear trunck on each side & 2 outter screws that hold speakers on. This allowed for easy routing of the wires instead of fiddling with cd's wire feeder also found out both harness are labeled 1-4 so just posi-tap #4 on the bike side of harness-regardless of what color. Also make sure purple wire from HMT gose on the left, Brown,Red,black go on the Right
