Cruise control on an RS

My wife was wondering if it's possible to put cruise control on the RS? How about a CB? Although she's never ridden a bike, she loves the Spyder and is confident she can handle one, but would need to have cruise control and the CB would allow us to chat bike-to-bike.

MC Cruise is the top of the line product...very high quality...too rich for my blood so I went with the mechanical cruise in the form of the throttlemeister....it's really all I need...

I would love to have the MC Cruise control. I think the Audiovox is decent too. But alas, I too have the less expensive, Throttlemeister. It is not true cruise control, it is a friction throttle lock but it sure does make the longer rides a lot nicer.

Deb,

I really like my TM...I agree that the MC would be really nice, but I truly don't have a want for it...I'm getting the hard bags first...they are much more practical for me, at this time...also have to get more of ESI's lights soon...argh...

My assessment of the up and outs was like yours...really like them more...and they are more stable....I think you said you had the belt tension reduced...did this help also with vibration at high speeds? I'm thinking this might be all I need to fix the mirror vibration issue as the up and outs have already taken care of at least 50% of the problem....

I actually really like my TM too. Unless I just had money laying around, I probably wouldn't spend it on the MC either. As you mentioned, so many other "want" out there, (darn you Evan :joke:). Yup, I have gotten rid of a lot of vibration between the mirrors and the belt tension. Don't think I will ever get rid of it all, but it is so much better than before. I am am really happy.

To stay with the thread, Brian has a throttle lock and he really seems to like it. That would be a very cheap alternative to cruise. I do believe Evan/ ESI sells those as well.

After using the cruise control on my RTS, I miss my Throttlemeister. Low tech gadget for my low tech brain! :D

I have the McCruise and I love it. It works great and allows me to rest my hand and arms. My husband added a vacuum canister to it and it works even better with that addition. He installed it himself. Takes a bit of knowhow but the directions were excellent and so was the customer service.

I use a Vista Cruise..kinda just mounted "my way" but it works great for those long drives. Could not find one that really fit right so went with a Honda one and then made it work. Going up and down hills is a bit of a challenge but on those long straight roads down 40 towards the beach..love it.

I'm had the throttle lock and the Audiovox Cruise control, both the vacuum and electric servo. The cruise control is really nice as it compensates for uphill, downhill and headwind. But the throttle lock is also nice to have.

If I had to go with one or the other the cruise control is the better way to go. It more than doubles the amount of miles I can put on in a day.

SpyderDeb has the AudioVox cruise control ($130 off of ebay with additional vacuum canister) and J&M JMCB2003 for comm and iPod music.

The cruise has performed OK over 18K miles and recently on a 3700 mile road trip; definitely not the quality of the McCruise unit even though I've not seen one up close and personal. The didn't make a mount for the control unit for an SE when we ordered the parts. Quite involved to install.

The J&M CB works OK out to about 3/4 mile with the 3 foot antenna mounted in back of the seat (not on the license plate). Reasonably simple to use. Be careful when routing the antenna cable. I managed to short out two cables when following the frame tubing around the left side of the bodywork. Rerouted with a new cord following the frame backbone over the top of the engine and it has worked for about 4K miles.

Vista cruiser...bolted the arm that goes over the switch box to the bolted on Yamaha upside down clutch lever.

a honda clutch cable runs down to the foot area and pulls the foot brake down.
