Cruise Control- Getting it perfected

My first install had some issues to say the least. ::) The main problem is I tried to install it with the air box on because I couldn't figure out how to get the stupid air box lid off. After I got a manual in my hand we gave it another shot on Ron's Spyder. Ron never did like my mounting bracket for the cable so he decided to do his different. He said the bracket should be on the motor so if it moves it moves together. He was right. 8)

So we came up with a much better place to hook the cable on his :spyder: and with a little work and a little fab. we got his mounted. :doorag:

So then we decided to rework mine seeing we knew how to get the air box off now. Now understand when I fist did mine I wasn't even thinking about mounting the cable to the motor so it never hit me to do it like this.

It's kinda hard to see but there is a lip that hangs down on the air box that worked out perfect for mounting a bracket to. It took half a day to do Ron's and about half an hour to do mine. :doorag:

This is what the mess looks like on my Spyder. :spyder:

When you tap in for a signal you need to pick up a tach wire off of the coil. You can do it right at the Gould like I did or you can do like Ron and cut into the harness to pick up your signal.

I'm a lot happier with this last install. We just need to put some miles on now and see if there's going to be any issues. I feel pretty good about it now. :doorag:

Looking forward to a REAL road test of the latest install. A true cruise control will be EXCELLENT!

looked good from my perspective!
Hope ron's worked out also.

I noticed on your trip you said it died...did you get it fixed. Whats the cost of one of those units?

The yareless than $100 bucks. I haven't tried it yet since I've worked on my other issues. I hope to get it working tomorrow.

Lamonster, did you figure out your cruise control? That is one mod I really want , but really intimidates me. thanx WAYNE

Bump, Any updates on this? I am getting ready to install this on mine.
Any new info would be greatly appreciated:bowdown:

Yes the McCruise is a bit expensive, and the install is ok if you really know how to adjust your Throttle cable from the handgrip down.

It works great and I am very happy with the unit. The Customer support was outstanding, The Mfg Owner, Tony Guymer, called me from Austraila to help resolve any issues I may have had.. Now that I think is something.. Also come to find out, just 15 miles from me " spoiledrider.com " Joe, handles the Cruise as well as other stuff, he made my final adjustments on cable. Just like I said, knowing how is the key.

The only reason I did not go with the unit that Lamonster has, was at the time I decided to find a cruise, he stated his was broke, so.... I went with McCruise. By no means am I saying that mine is better than his, however, Lamonster's cost less much to my haste I spend more money..

Lamont has had problems with his Audiovox Cruise Control and has given up on it altogether. He likes his throttle lock and I guess he's going to stick with that for awhile.

If you are the leader then a throttle lock is just fine because everyone else has to adjust to your speed. But for followers, like me, it sucks. Your speed can go up or down 5-10mph with even slight inclines. Sure, you can continually tweek your throttle lock and hope you hit on the right speed but it is a real pain.

With a true CC you hit the button and get a 1mph increase or decrease in speed with every push. And, the CC adjusts for hills. Mine maintains +/- 1mph in almost all situations. And that is up to 85mph (as fast as I've run my CC)

Plus, a true CC will get you right back to the same speed just by hitting a button if you do need to hit your brake for traffic. Try that with a Throttle Lock.

I'm pretty sure the problem is moisture getting into the control pad. That's what killed Lamont's 1st one (and mine too).

The control pad is not designed to be water tight. For our 2nd install we pulled the rubber cover off, put some silicone on the circuit board and put the cover back on.

My 2nd try is still working just fine. It may be we did a better job with the silicone on mine than we did on his. Then again, Lamont puts more miles on than I do and he loves riding in downpoors!

I've put about 3,000 miles on my 2nd control head with no problems. And that includes at least 200 miles in the rain.

For $100 I don't think you can beat it. Lamont and I got the install down pretty well and there are no adjustments necessary. Once you get it installed it's turn-key.

Over 4k miles on my McCruise, workes great in the rain, no issues.

If money was no object I like to get mccruise but....
I will have to get audiovox to cooperate;)
For 100 bucks hard to beat audiovox
Did you guys used vaccumless audiovox?

Wasn't aware of a vacuumless CC from Audiovox. We used the vacuum type and it works just fine as long as you can keep the control head circuit board dry.

Audiovox have fully electronic cc
I figure it's one less thing I have worry about

Thanks for all the input:thumbup:
I already have the audiovox ccs-100.
Is the optional vacuum tank needed on the Spyder?
I will make sure to take extra care when I seal the head unit.
