• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Crazy SE shifting problem today...

Finally had the perfect combination of decent riding weather AND free time, so I went bombing around the Shenandoah Valley today. Had something happen multiple times that's got me worried, however.

Randomly, about four or five times over about 250 miles worth of riding, when I would downshift on my SE, the transmission would *upshift* instead. E.g., in 4th gear, I'd downshift to 3rd, but instead it would upshift to 5th.

I did get a "check transmission" light at one point (caught it out of the corner of my eye), but it went away almost immediately and didn't occur again.

Oil level's fine, bike felt in great shape, and nooo, I wasn't accidentally upshifting when I thought I was downshifting :p.

Reverse didn't happen, BTW-- i.e. the bike never downshifted when I upshifted, just the other way.

Anyone ever have this happen to them before? I don't recall ever seeing this problem here at Spyderlovers in the past few years, and nothing came up in my forum search. Obviously, if this becomes a habit, I'm going to have the dealer check it; just wondering if anyone has any theories. Bad clutch box on the handlebar, maybe? :dontknow:

Sounds like an electrical input problem to me. Nothing mechanical or hydraulic should happen unless or until the shift solenoid receives an electrical pulse. Could be in the paddle itself, or further down stream. Have you washed the spyder or been in rain recently.

Voltage regulator

Mine is in the shop waiting for a voltage regulator. Symptoms were worse. Sitting with parking brake on, it would randomly shift to any gear. Started to leave a red light and it shifted into reverse. BUDS says loss cf comms to TCM. Bargerones troubleshot it to the regulator. Actually I went for 8k service and it wouldn't go into gear for moving into the service bay.
Hopefully, this is the last this is the last problem till time to trade at a hundred thousand miles

Nope, no washing (hahahahahahaha!) or rain.

Thanks all for the thoughts-- I've got to take the bike in for its annual safety inspection next month, so if this keeps happening I'll have them check it out. Word to the wise, while I make it seem like an annoyance, when you're going out of a mountain road corner hot and suddenly find yourself inexplicably lugging the engine instead of racing out, it's quite upsetting. I imagine it'd be even worse if I'm trying to race out of a potential accident situation! :yikes:

Good to know
