There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Cost Of Ownership of a 1330

Attempting to due my due dilligence. With being headed towards retirement, I'm attempting to appproach a purchase with "eyes wide open". Does BRP publish an on-line Recommended Interval Maintenance Schedule by mileage or months in service for the '14 RT series trikes? Could someone point me to where I can find it?
Thanks,
Mike

You can access the 2014 Shop manual online... Maybe the owner's manuals are also available there too? :dontknow:
I'd go check out BRP's Spyder for this info; happy hunting!

Here you go: http://www.operatorsguides.brp.com/...type=og&_ga=1.135633585.1892084348.1401733199

It asks for your email, you can give it or leave it blank. Select the operator's guide for 2014 RT.

Just look in the maintenance area and should show you the schedule. Mine starts on page 120 in the 2014 RT Limited operator's guide.

Good luck....BTW -- my 2014 RT Limited is AWESOME!

Cost for maintenance appears to be less on the 1330 compared to the previous steeds.

First oil change interval is at about 3000 miles and second is at about 9200 miles. They recommend once a year if you don't have the requisite miles. Most oil change services are $250-$300.

Valve check intervals are no longer required. That is about $600-$800 if you decide to have them done on the 998 versions.

Tires seem to be an issue with replacement by a lot of people done at around 6,000 miles.

I am approaching 3000 miles so am due for my first oil change service. No tire issues yet.

They also don't seem to be burning any oil either...
It was rare for a 998 to NOT need a top--off; now and then...

I'm hoping to "NOT" put a ton of money into a new purchase of an RT next year!!

Honestly?? $250-$300 for an Oil Change? Why would you not change your own oil? I'm an owner and will have some things done by a dealer, but its a hard swallow to be charged the money they get for servicing our rides. AM I wrong??

:congrats:...I have three , two are for sale the GS and RSS.....both are great machines and never left me stranded......However they were not in-expensive to maintain ( properly ).........Luckily I am handy and not afraid to get my hands dirty...I also got the shop manual...............All that being said my 2014 RT by comparison is closer to being a car rather than a MTC......It's so low in maintenance I really find it almost hard to believe they have created this from the previous Spyder.......JMHO ..Mikeguyver :2excited: :yes::yes:

Other things are supposed to be done. Most of the cost is the hourly shop rate. My dealer charges $110 per hour. Most vary from $90 - $150.

If your crippled up like I am, as well as non-mechanically inclined, not much alternative but to have the dealer service my :spyder2:

How can you SAY such a thing about our Spyders???

:roflblack:

All in all they are no more expensive to maintain than any other motorcycle type of machine....

Yours is the first one that I've heard of, that needed an extra sip of oil along the way... nojoke
Mine's almost at 2,000 miles: so far; so good!

Bob, mine needed a top off at less than 1500 miles. Not impressed. nojoke

I have about 2800 miles on my 2014 RT Limited and it is still near the "full" mark on oil and I have checked it from the first ryde and every long ryde after I stop. It has consistently been at that mark and absolutely no drips! It's been great. It will be going into it's first service next week for the oil change and check-up! No issues at all with this AWESOME machine!

If you're topping yours off, is it consumption of oil or do you have a leak? I think most 2014 RT's are using very little, if any, oil. IMHO.

No leak apparent but the dip stick showed it down about 1/8" from the low/fill mark so added a little, very little. But still was surprised to see it low. I am not impressed with a few things like the fact it was built last year (October) and I didn't realize that until I got it home and figured out where the label was located. I bought it in April! It had the oil screw recall done along with the key/ignition recall and another recall that I can't recall (no pun intended) but if I had bought one that was built later, say in March of this year I doubt it would have ANY issues.

Excuse me while I vent...:banghead:

OK. Sorry to hear that....I'm sure you checked it when you first got it so it has consumed some oil and not leaked it. You should document and tell your dealer for any future issues that may arise. When they do the first service, then you will have a fresh start with about 3000 miles on it -- by then your engine will be broken in and oil usage should be minimal based on all the posts I see for the 2014 RT triple!

You stated only 1500 miles...some oil usage during break-in on most engines is a normal thing. I was surprised to see really no drop in my oil level at all!

Good luck with your Spyder....I do think the 2014 RT is a "home run" for the Spyder and really enjoy ours.

Why are you all hung up on a motor using a bit of oil?

Well it's not just the oil. As I stated there has been 3 recalls and now I'm reading nobody has oil usage on their 2014's and I have. That's all. Don't get so defensive.
