Coolant level and amount for a 2012 Spyder RT

Hello, this is my first winter with my Spyder. I was told by the dealer that there was a small leak in my coolant system but it wasn’t a major issue at this time. I choose to keep an urge on it. I was unable to read the level so I decided to drain and refill the whole system. The manual says that it should hold 3 liters and I drained about 2.7 liters. I went to fill it but I was only able to get 1.75 liters back into the system. I decided to run it to get it to flow into the system but after running it until warm I checked the level after cooled and it said it was still full with only 1.75 liters. Has anyone ran into this issue? Any thoughts?

No direct Spyder experience, but likely there is air in the system and it may require thermostat removal to clear.
Was it warm enough for thermostat to open?
Any gurgling sounds with engine running?

It was warm enough for the exhaust fan to kick on but I guess I may need to let it get hotter. No gurgling or anything out of the norm when it was running.

Right. You won’t need to remove the thermostat, but you will have to run it for awhile with the thermostat open. All the air is trapped in the radiator - it needs to be swooshed out of there, back through the water pump and engine, and back to the tank via that little vent line from that black upper fitting. And keep the tank cap off for awhile so the majority of the air can get out of the system. Even then, expect to get one burp of the tank cap one day when it gets hot out.

In the future, use a bright flashlight and hold it up against the tank from inside the right front wheel well. You can get a pretty good indication of where the green line is. Or…I use a little fuzzy pipe cleaner, bent into an L shape as a simple dip stick. No guess work with that.

I’m hoping that you didn’t use the radiator drain fitting when you drained the system. If so, monitor that for leakage. They usually crack when you do that.

For changing the radiator fluid has anyone done it AFTER heating up the fresh fluid to / near the boil point ????? .... I think it might work .....Mike

#1 Ride it -keep the coolant full. #2 Your 12 runs hot-review AIR SCOOPS - $70 dollars from BRP...these were introduce due to 13's frame changes and fire hazards ( your isn't a fire hazard-just hot) #3 You'll read a bunch of opinions - get the scoops and don't cut anything on your panels-they work fine just ON the panels. The scoop kit comes in various forms and configurations- just the scoops for yours. #4. Again keep ur coolant topped.
