• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

considering on buying a spyder

a dealer’s list, spyders to the rescue, code info and other info is available free on the spydercodes app available on google play or the app store.

Go to any forum and you'll find every possible horror story on that particular vehicle.

1 in 1,000 will mention anything about having a great ride or how much they enjoy their machine. That post will get 1 or 2 replies and it's gone off the charts in 1 day.

But every time someone has a hiccup, you're going to hear about it here. Then you're going to get replies from everyone who has had a similar problem, or knew of someone who had a similar problem, or heard a rumor about someone having a similar problem.

Then you get people responding that have had any problem at all with their Spyder since 2008 when they first came out. These kinds of threads get a few hundred responses and last for weeks or longer.

So, it will always appear that tragedy is the soup du jour when reading through posts in a forum setting like this. When, in fact, most Spyder owners are out riding and having a great, trouble free experience.

But, as with any machine, there are owners who have problems. Most are minor, many are self inflicted, and a great deal of them are easily remedied. And then there are some who do experience very serious issues. But these are much more rare than posts in a forum would make it appear.

We don't hear much from the folks who've had no trouble, because they're too busy riding! :D
And since most people feel that watching traffic is boring until wreck occurs; they only look for the threads with problems...

dont get me wrong. we want to be like you guys and gals and hope to be.
but this forum seems to be the best source of info, both good and bad.
when the good starts ill sing its praises.just like i did on the vtx and
victory forums. thanks for listening--irv toms

Considering on where to buy a Spyder

Your satisfaction with a Spyder is also a function on where you choose to buy it.
Spyder dealers are definitely not created equal.

It’s not an easy thing to research either.
Large, high volume dealerships can offer lower prices and bigger selections but the attention to detail in the initial build and setup might be better at a less hectic dealership.

Or not.

Spending a few hours hanging around at the dealership you are considering buying from on one of their busier days might yield a lot of information.

How do they handle the customers (irrespective if they are Spyder customers).
Do they seem to have the parts that people come in for?
Do they offer an in house retrieval or do they farm out towing?
How do they manage their service appointments?
What’s the general feel of the place?
Do the people who work on the machines look like they know how to tie their own shoes?

Sure Can Am dealers are spaced few and far between in some areas but a little research can go along way to your satisfaction.

If you do decide to buy a Spyder make where you buy it or intend to have it serviced as a major part of the decision.

It's not an F3, but I've put 15,000 trouble free miles on my RS-S in the last 13 months. Spark plugs and air cleaner weren't even dirty when I changed them at 14,000. :).

I love my Spyder but admit that I fell in love since they first made them in 07. I test rode them a few time falling deeper then this Thanskgiving I got the F3S... Better than I ever thought it would be and I had high hopes! Do yourself a favor and get it:yes::yes::yes::yes::spyder:

Every time I Ryde it

I get more enjoyment than the time before ... Because I'm gradually letting go of the " what lfs" and just enjoying the experience . This is a good site to ask the questions on your mind , and you will get honest answers and good information from experienced owners

I did go to my local Harley dealer, I will not be going back. First, the salesman was rude and when I tried to tell him that the bike stalled in third gear going down a straight away he told me it was because I did not know how to drive. enough of my venting, the ride was very rough and I was not comfortable at all. I left there and went to a different Cam Am dealer, I was treated with kindness and when I told him I tried the F 3 he recommended I try another model. I liked the RT better. I was not considering a touring bike but it would be nicer to take my grandchildren. I cannot afford a new one so I am looking a a used 2012 and a new left over 2013. I will keep reading and get more informed everyday.

If you think Spyder dealerships are far and few in between, buy a Ferrari.
:joke:

I did not want to repeat what others have said over and over and over.

If you don't tinker with it, do your own maintenance, tear it apart and over farkle it you will have fewer

problems. A good stock Spyder will give you few problems. Trying to install electrical things when you

don't know what you are doing seems to be the major culprit. Mr. Can Bus gets very angry when you do

this.

Oh, and one more thing, read and know your Owners Manual. It will save you hours of Heartburn! Many

owners who don't are constantly on here seeking advice they have in the Owners Manual but are too lazy

to read.

I tried a traditional 3 wheeler. Definitely not for me. Ended up with the F3. Couldn't be happier. I feel so much safer and more in control. A friend works for a dealer in sales. The new models don't seem to have the maintenance issues. Even the mechanics like them a lot better than the old models. I felt pretty confident this one was for me.

Now THAT's a name!

Who inspired it? :D

Came in from the yard with the dogs. Sitting in my office with my 2 Saint Bernards Ready to pass out from the heat and making a puddle on my floor and there it was. Small dog was 135lbs and big dog 185. The walls in the room with their food and water had to be wiped down once a week. High gloss wall paint was a necessity!

I suggest you go to a Harley Forum.
Unless there's been a recent change you can read about "all the problems" HD has too.

Fact of life, the majority of spots on forums are UNFORTUNATELY complaints and not a real-world measure of actual "problems".
But lets put this into context.

This forum has @ 20K members. Let's be generous and say that represents 25% of ALL Spyder owners.
How many "problems" out of the 20K members have been report?
Again, let's be generous and say that 2K problems have been reported.
Thats' @ 2.5% of the total Spyders. I can tell you that's pretty much standard across the industry.

So you can sit out there and be scared OR you can do what you know you really want to do OR you can buy a TriGlide for $10K more.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

AJ
I went Saturday to our closest dealership and enjoyed riding the F3 the only one the left you demo. The only thing I am most scared of is hearing all the problems people are having with them. I have a two hour drive to the dealership and that's the closest one to me. Harley dealerships are everywhere and I plan to travel. So what I am really wondering are these dependable or are they for basically around town and plan rides around dealerships. I am a single female and do not want to be stranded 10 hrs from home.

glad to hear your experience at the spyder dealer was much better, just take your time and find what is the most comfortable for you and then enjoy!!!

good luck with the shopping

Thanks for that explanation.:thumbup: I guess it occupies much of your time at home.
