• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

compression question

Ok there's on you anyone I have a 2012 RS-SE5 when it was new if I would down shift there was a noticeable compression slow down you could really feel it. Now with over 50000 miles if I down shift there is no noticeable compression. What's UP ???:dontknow: any ideas. jtpollock

Or maybe that you are more aware/better at matching revs to the lower gears than you used to be??! :sour:

Not sure..!!

I have the 2012RS Sm5 with 30,000 miles and have no change as yet. Having limited right foot motion I use the compression more than most so much so my brakes are just about half worn. Could be your clutch is not holding as well anymore (not familiar with the Se5) or some of the points mentioned above. Check your oil for corky smell as well as condition. Don't know what brand you are using some do not work well with wet clutches. But I would start there cause you should not have that noticeable a change...

If you had compression issues as great as you are describing the Engine would not be running right, Lots of blow-by, gunky air filter and throttle body, Hard starting especially when hot, and possibly lots of oil consumption. If your clutch was bad this would be more noticeable on acceleration. Take compression measurements, then you will know.

These are just my thoughts nothing more.

At 36,500 miles, my RT SE5 seemed to have the same compression as when it was new. I always downshifted that one. The 1330/three seems to be much smoother so I let happen on its own. At 20,000 miles, it also seems the same.

without doing an actual compression test there is no way to know. However I would suspect that it is more likely a clutch slippage problem then an actual compression problem. If you have the tools and the ability I would do a compression test.

Thanks all. I do have some mechanical skills just not the tools. I will be taking my RS in for rear Pad replacement next week.

To address some of the comments I use Royal Purple Max Cycle 10W-40 and have used it since my first oil change, I change my oil every 5000 miles, I am using about One quart in that 5000 miles.

When my oil is full I have no problems with shifting or acceleration it's very strong. It just feels like the transmission is slipping on the downshift but holding strong on acceleration.

I have no problems with the way it runs or starts and have not noticed any odd or bad smell when I change my oil, I do not send the oil for testing but I do let it run through my fingers and the oil still feels good not gritty.

I will see what the Shop tells me next week :dontknow:. jtpollock

O.K. just got back from the shop had the rear brake pad replaced. The tech checked the drive belt and at 55060 miles still look good
did a test ride and said every thing is good no problems it just as it should be. looking forward to many more miles. Ride safe
