Communication systems on 2014 RTS ?

You cannot control BT volume to your headsets using the volume buttons. That only adjusts speaker volume. For BT volume you adjust it using the BT headset knob. If you think about it this makes sense because 2 people may have different volume desires.

Bob

Mine does, always has. Volume controls and mute work fine from the handle bar. When I swapped out the radio between mine and my wifes RT looking for the noise problem, it still worked. Something different in the 13?

There is a setting to disable the speakers, I have that set to disable the speakers when using the radio on the headset, otherwise there is an echo. So only the helmets have output via bluetooth, could that have something to do with it?

I think you should double check yours. Mine is a 2011 RTS and yes you can mute using the volume controls but you cannot change volume in the BT headset. It stays the same level of volume until the volume slider on the dash hits the bottom and then it mutes. Or hold the down volume button a few seconds and it auto mutes. The only way I can control volume is with the knob on the Sena headset.

Remember the dongle hooks to a fixed output on the RD0-2 connector not to the speaker output.
Having the speakers on or off for me makes no difference. If you search here this topic has come up many times before about volume not working with BT. That is why some did prefer using a device to hook the SM10 to the speaker output (like Nancy's Toys).

I talked to BRP today and the CB communication system is NOT being discountinued. It's only on backorder and can be purchased from your local dealer when it becomes available.

Things that make you go hmmmm

Dont know. Mine works, use it every day when I ride alone. I almost never adjust the volume on the sena headset (mine are pushbuttons not a dial on the SMH10R) I never knew others did not. Never had this problem and would have been pretty unhappy with it had I ran into it. I was already pretty unhappy with the poor integration of the SM10 anyway. Seems my SM10 gets a variable output. In fact if I go above about 3/4 scale on the volume, the BT module overloads and begins distorting. Its a good reminder that I have it WAY TOO LOUD for my own good.

Who is Dave on SL?

Who is "Dave here on SL?" Am I to assume you are talking about the Sena SM10 Dual Stream Bluetooth Transmitter and not sure what SR10 is? Unless it's a headset?

What you list should work fine!

But I will do my best to try to talk you out of buying the BRP headsets and SM10 from BRP. BRP doesnt sell the SR10 anyway. You will pay a heck of a lot more going to BRP for those off the shelf parts. I will be glad to make you a BT dongle cable for free to help you save. I have made at least 20 cables for SL folks here all for free and they have all worked for everyone.

Get your headsets and SM10/SR10 from Dave here on SL.

A Big Thank you !

I did get it at Value Accessories. Attached are some photos that might help.

Thanks lyonsden for the pictures of your setup. The PTT button is not that big ,my initial concern was that the PTT was too big for your hands to comfortably grip the handlebars.
Since in Ontario Canada we cannot use handheld devices while driving I cannot change channels or adjust CB while driving so have to pull over to do that ,so I will install CB in rear trunk on RT.and use Power outlet to power CB.

I like your windshield bag .

Thank again to everyone for your help, I really appreciate it.:thumbup:

You need to go into the settings screen and enable radio controls on the display, then you will be able to change songs while on the MPH screen.

Thanks. This worked fine.
The volume controls for the bike audio still don't work.
I'm OK with that.

Didn't I make you a cable?
It sounds to me like your SENA SM10 is hooked to your speaker output.

Trust no one I have made a cable for does what yours does.
If you are using a BT dongle to RD0-2 no way does it work that way. So I am at a loss on what you have. But knowing Radio Sound and their many issues with this radio, I guess I would not put it past them to have software changes. Consider yourself lucky!

A great guy. He can set you straight on all things Bluetooth.

The SR 10 is a mono module that allows connecting to a CB radio.

He cannot supply the BT dongle SM10 cable to the BRP radio!
Dave is great and I have talked with him. Alas SENA for some reason wont make the needed cable!
I have supplied all the technical data to make the cable.

In the end BE AWARE... You cannot buy off the shelf SM10 and make it work without the dongle cable.

Yes, you did make me a cable. A very well built one I must add. Thanks. No ideas, just glad its working the way it does.

Sena cannot sell the needed cable because they are probably under contract to supply the cable only to BRP and no one else.
BRP might own the cable design and get sena to manufacture it.

Actually a member here sent me a BRP BT cable set. The cables are not made by Sena but some cable company BRP contracts (I dont remember the name off the top of my head and don't have the cable in hand right now). But you still could be right that they have a no-compete clause with Sena for buying SM10's rebranded.

I have the Midland portable cb and SE10 in the trunk. Firestick NGP antenna with mirror mount on the luggage rack. Extension ptt cable from SR10 to the ptt button strapped to the handle grip.

Still have to mount the SR10 and radio. Right now they are loose in trunk. I had thought about mounting up from but Marker reminded me the radio is not water resistant.

Chuck

How did you mount the PTT button and where did you run the cable?
How did you get the PTT wire and antenna cable into your trunk?
I like the idea of your install. I think I want to match it.

The PTT button with the SR10 has a rubber strap. I mount it on the left handlebar. I purchased the PTT extension cable from Sena and run this under my seat to the trunk.

The Firestick is mounted to my luggage rack and wire into the trunk. It is important NOT to cut or coil the wire. Leave it in a "bow tie" type coil. It comes this way.

Good luck.

Here is where I mounted my PTT button. Right next to the OEM PTT. I ran the wires inside the handle bar cover and under the seat into the rear trunk where I will mount the SENA SR10 and radio.

Strange..... SM10 and SR 10 don't play together weell.

I have my SMH-10 headset paired to the SM-10 on the motorcycle for audio, one other SMH-10 headset and my cell phone.
All this works well.
I have a Midland CB with the SR-10 module.
When I try to pair the SR-10 module, it will go ahead and pair alright, but it tosses my cell phone out of the mix.
It seems I can have my cell phone OR the CB radio, but not both. (Talk about First World problems)
Am I doing something wrong ?

No, the SMH-10 headsets can only function as one Hands Free Device (two way coms) at a time. The SR-10 module and your cell phone both use the same link.

I wonder if I can use the SR 10 for the CB AND the cell phone, and then make one connection between the SR 10 and the headset.
This is starting to give me a headache.
