• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Cold air intake vs kewlmetel air intake?

Kewl Metal makes an air filter kit that replaces the OEM air box. It pulls air from the engine compartment which can get pretty warm.

Cold air intake comes in various forms. The OEM system is actually designed to be 'Cold Air Intake'. It simply means that you're pulling in ambient air (which isn't always 'Cold' but is colder than engine compartment air).

Cold air is denser, more concentrated than hot air. Denser air will give you more power and is the preferred way to go.

We have the best of both worlds

Cool air is denser, this is why we see dew in the morning, the air is denser and can hold less moisture. Denser air takes up less space in the cylinder so you can pack more in on the intake stroke. To use it you have to add more fuel which is controlled by the several different systems on the bike as it tries to maintain the same air/fuel ratio.

The Kewlmetal filter does not take in much different air than the stock air filter, the reason being is that the factory air box is huge and blocks off incoming air. When removed, ambient air is able to circulate around the filter and wash on past to exit under the bike. I wrapped the exhaust headers and replaced the cat with a wrapped Y pipe which dramatically reduces the temperature in the engine area. It is likely warmer by a bit but that is easily off set by the engine being able to breath easier which means............more air in the cylinder on the intake stroke!

The down side is noise that is created by the inrushing air to the performance filter. The stock air box has a resonator designed into the snorkel, this is what takes up so much room. It very effectively reduces the sound so you will have to deal with that. I added 30 sq/ft of sound/heat blanket to all the panels and over the engine then down and between the upper frame and the gas tank. This muffles the sound and while hot as quite as before is not obnoxious.

Cincy,

so it looks like you put rubber piping near the front shock to bring cool air to the kewl metal filter - did you do anything else?
