Club Ride--May 7

Our club had its first ride of the season last night. 12 bikes attended (three Spyders). We rode on the famous Turnagain Arm. A weather cell was over us and you could see the rain about 5 miles ahead. Four foot waves and white caps were kicking up and the famous bore tide was headed out. Winds about 35 - 50 mph. Cccccccccccold. But, we did it. We went to a nice BBQ place after the ride.

What is a bore tide??? Learning and teaching opportunity here. Never lived close to the water. Utah!!! Second driest state in the U.S. and I live on the border of Utah, Arizona and Nevada which is thy driest. What we would give for a little tide here.

Bore tide: a daily tide that comes in an out of Turnagain Arm. This is the second highest tide in North America. The Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia tops it and is number one. Been to Bay of Funday and the water level changes by almost twenty feet from high to low tide.

Here, the water level is about ten feet. When the tide is out, it appears you can walk across Turnagain Arm--but don't--people get sucked into the mud and if your stuck when the tide comes in--not good. People have drowned doing it. You will not see any boats out on Turnigain Arm because of the danger.

In times of high tide, you can see surfboarders riding the tide.
