Clear protective wrap.....

I'm literally running into brick walls :banghead: trying to find a vendor that will do a CLEAR protective wrap for a Spyder. I know others have had it done... using the 3M stuff, but no one seems to want to sell the stuff. I've spoken to the various wrap people out here...they don't do it or don't plan on doing it and basically didn't see the need.
They're missing a huge market in my opinion as I think there are more people that would want a clear wrap than any of the wild designs sold. I can't say I've found any wrap design on a Spyder that didn't basically hurt my eyes.

I just got all new panels for my F3 as the dealer scratched them up 'bigly' when installing some accessories. I need to protect them before installing. I've looked at the 3M spray but that seems problematic.

All it would need is a wrap vendor to buy the 3M paint protection material and then cut it on their vinyl cutter. Pretty simple.. the hard part is the install.. which I'm willing to do myself.

Anyone have an idea who would be willing to do this? Being in the graphic business I'm tempted to buy a vinyl cutter and the material and start doing it myself... but I really have too many other irons in the fire right now.

I can't be the only one that doesn't want his hood and gas tank on their F3 all scratched up...

I know others have found local places to do it... please share if you have and I'll call them to see if they'll ship a cut set to me.

Thanks!

I should think you could go to a paint supply house and buy some from them. Or do a google search for an online supplier.

Little checking..

:agree: I think Pete at wrap my spyder had some he used to sell as rock guard on the frunk..I would think he could help....:dontknow:

Paint Protect

I would also be interested in a clear paint protecter. I know after time the bugs and debris will be hard on the finish. I already have some scuff marks on the top of my RT's right bag lid where my wife has difficulty swinging her leg over. This shouldn't be rocket science, but not having any prior experience with wraps, I don't want to make things worse. I'd almost buy the material and find a expert to put it on.

I had some custom wrap done here many years ago, but what they would need if they don't already have in there computer inventory would be the dimensions you need to have it cut as. Me thinks as others have said that Pete would be the logical place to go. This is who I used for my wrap https://stickercity.com

Good luck and let us know how it turns out:cheers:

I bought clean protective film at Camping World a while back. It's not as thick as the diamond coat that's on the front but it's similar stuff. I'll see if I can find a link.

nothing on CW but Amazon has. 24" x 72" Genuine 3M Scotchgard Pro Series Paint Protection Film Bulk Roll Clear Bra Piece

Thanks for the ideas.. keep them coming!
Yes... I spoke with Pete and he can't do it. I think he's missing out on a prime opportunity to make some $$$$. I mean... who wouldn't want to protect the trunk and gas tank where your legs rub?
I'd really like to wrap the whole F3 with the clear... which I have seen done. There's a video online from a place in Pennsylvania that did it on an F3. Talked to them and they won't cut the pattern and sell the sheets. It was like a one-time deal. I'll post a link to the video.
I know I can buy sheets or rolls. I was hoping to get them cut to size and shape .... which I know can be done as people get wraps done and I know of some that have had the trunk and tank wrapped with the clear.
The diagrams are out there online that can be used to cut with a vinyl cutter.
Looks like I'll have to hand cut or invest in a vinyl cutter.
I can probably print the outlines right on the sheets with my wide format printer and then hand cut them. Just gotta find a place to download the diagrams.

I know it's up here in canada, but it is a chain, so maybe it's in some states as well. The guys here in kamloops did an excellent job of my 2017 RT-S. Anything that could get chipped from the road, or a passenger (including me) was protected. I'm not saying it was cheap, but to me, well worth the investment.

Well, I decided to order a 30" x 96" roll and just cut it myself. Talked to a supplier and they said the pre-cut pieces often don't fit right. He prefers to stretch the material over the entire panel and then cut it. Since I have the panels off I can wrap around the edges and then just trim on the inside so I'll have complete coverage of the panels. I got extra as I'm sure I'll mess it up on my first try.

I'll post photos of the process and the final result....

Paint Protection Film- Yes, we have it

Just to clarify, we do have the paint protection film in stock at www.wrapmyspyder.com and have sold various panels to customers who were willing to try to apply it. However, at this time we do not have all the pre-cut templates for the F3 to be able to offer it to owners as a pre-cut kit. If someone has a desire to come to our shop (Erie PA, 16506) we can apply the film as a bulk install and cover whatever area on the bike you are concerned about. We are installing this film on vehicles almost daily at the shop and do just as many bulk film installs as we do pre-cut.

Paint protection film can be tricky to apply especially when cutting it because it is 8 mil thick.
You also want to make sure you get your slip mix correct or it will make the film much harder to apply.

We do realize this is an area we are missing out on but with limited access to F3's theirs not much we can do until we get our hands on one for an extended period of time.

You can see some of our PPF projects here: https://get.google.com/albumarchive.../AF1QipMkqoTksqdb9cpILLoxsSikjHxdUkJC7pytg3av

Thank you
Pete

I guess I thought you did wraps for the F3..... which is why I figured you could do a cut out using the 3M. I'm not close enough to come and do a fitting session...

A friend had his done at a local shop that was a 3M dealer.... they were able to just download the F3 pattern and cut it from that.

I've read a lot and watched a lot of videos on installing it.... I've got my curse words ready.....

Yeah.. I found a supplier via ebay.. called and talked to them in depth about the project. They were very knowledgeable and helpful... so they got the order.

What I was originally looking for was pre-cut pieces to fit the F3.... something that apparently doesn't exist yet.

The hood would be a no-brainer and what I'll be installing first. The tank I'm sure will be tricky....

When I had mine done, (an RT-S) it was all custom cut. The dealer said there just wasn't enough demand for the patterns.

AMR Racing

AMR Racing has F-3 designs. They are great to work with. Here is a link link to their designs. I am sure they will work with you to give the cut-outs you desire.
