• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I've rode in as low as 13F degree's and will ride lower if there isn't excessive ice/snow/salt on the ground. I have some decent snowmobile gloves,
motorcycle over-pants and a heavy motorcycle jacket with liner. I also wrap a bandanna around my face/neck. I commute to work about 20 miles 95% freeway at 75-85mph. The only thing that gets too cold is my fingertips by the time I get to work. I also have to keep my face shield open a bit until I enter the freeway or it fogs up.

Friend of mine just emailed me that it was -52 F in Alberta today. Suddenly, it doesn't seem so cold around here.

I start using heated gear at about 65 degrees!nojoke I HATE being too cool to really enjoy the ride. I start to get tense, my back gets tight and starts to ache and the tightness translates through my shoulders and arms which in turn directly impacts how smooth you can take the twisties. (Although this is much more true, I find, on two wheels than on the Spyder.) Every bike I own is wired for heat. I used Gerbings for years but have switched to the Synergy by Cortech in the last two years and love it more. My Gerbings had the wires you could feel and sometimes they'd hurt on an elbow or feel too warm in one spot - not so with the Cortech, plus don't have to pay extra for the controller. My Gerbing gloves (and pants) still connect to the jacket. If you use heated gear, you can even eliminate the inside liner so you don't feel so bundled up. I hate that feeling that when you turn your head you have to turn from the waist because you've got so many layers on! This way when I stop (or go slow through streets) I don't have so many layers on that I get way too hot - just turn off the heat. I ride down to between 0 and 15 and stay toasty and comfortable - except sometimes my visor will fog at really slow temps.

Cool Weather Riding

Lived on fort mason mountain for years, and the only time I did not ride is when I couldn't get the motorcycle, dirt bike, or four wheeler to start from negative temps. I find the cool weather refreshing to ride in and sort of peaceful.

Well.... I just roll up the windows and go fer it.

Good answer Forrest!

I wear Homer Simpson PJ bottoms under my Levi's and layer 4-5 long and short sleeve shirts under my jacket, and a face & neck protector under my helmet (modular). I feel pretty cozy going to work. I work outdoors (railroad) so my driving gear is my work gear during the winter. Actually, I find it colder after I get off my bike at work. I recently bought some adhesive heating patches at the hardware store which suppose to work for over 12 hrs on your hands and .... elsewhere. I'm on vacation right now so I'll stay out of the cold for awhile. Doesn't blend well with arthritis anyway. Jan. 1 is the 10th annual Frozen N*t run to Domingos in Boron. About 40 mi. away. Its a favorite of the shuttle astronauts when they land at Edwards AFB. Anybody else have Frozen N*t Runs?
